2.2 ecotec Power steering

Looking to get a few extra HP out of a asphalt oval car. Ive been told unhooking the power steering pump may help. Ive heard i can also just put a switch on it but am unsure if a switch will help as the pump will still be in the end of the cam shaft. Any help would be great. Its a 2005 sunfire

have you thought about using an electric pump and remove the factory one? and make a block off plate. or I think maybe you can grab a plate off a cobalt since they run an electric pump anyways. not 100% sure on that though

That would be just transferring the HP from a hydraulic pump to the alternator to supply the power...

You could convert the rack to manual and delete the pump if you’re willing to go without power steering.

Cobalts have a block off plate that can be used to delete the pump.
