ok, on my way to work today, my CEL came on in my beater, so I just figured it was something stupid. I kept driving, and noticed the temp gauge was thru the roof. so i nursed it to the nearest gas station. checked the coolant, and the reservoir was empty. so i got some coolant and some water, and put in as close to 50/50 as i could. tried to drive again, and did the same thing. so i added some coolant to the radiator. not alot, but thought it couldnt hurt. well its same thing.
any ideas what it could be, and what can fix it?? its my winter beater, and my cav is on blocks in storage ripped apart, so i have nothing else to drive. i really only need it to last me 2 or 3 more months, til spring.
any help is greatly appreciated
if it's a 2.2 or 2.5 ....... well if it got hot enough ... those motors were famous for warping heads ..... I had my charger with the 2.2 do it twice ..... that would be my first worry ... but start with the little @!#$ first /.... rad hose leaks, rad leaks atc.
Jay
ya, i heard that about them. i cant really get in and look around as its snowing like crazy, and i have no garage. i was hoping somone could possibly have some input so when i do have to go out and look at it, i can have a specific place to start looking
hmmmm, that kinda sux. damn i hope i dont have to replace anything, lol. im moving into my new house and cant deal with this ish, lol
i've been working around 2.2/2.5 mopars ever since i've been driving and yer problem is 1 of 4 common things that plague these engines:thermostat, radiator and/or hose(s), blown head gasket, or u have fluid dripping out of the weep hole on yer water pump. all are easy to fix including the head gasket which i do in about 2 hours on a non-turbo or give about 3-4 hours on a turbo engine depending on how stubborn the four bolts on the turbocharger are. and 9/10 times if u over-heat these engines u will end-up w/ a warped head resulting in a fresh gagket. People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
ok, well, i was trying to locate the thermostat, which i think i found under the alternator, but havent removed the hose to check for sure.
funny thing, apparently i lost my belt to the alternator. and the one behind it is not on the belt track, but in between the motor casing and the pulley. not that that would be the problem, but kinda funny.
so, you think replacing the thermostat would cure it??
