Now it's DCX's turn
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 9:28 AM
Following Fords announcement, DaimlerChrysler announced this morning that they will slash 6,000 jobs in general and administrative staff. About 30 percent of the cuts will be at the management level and affect operations world wide, the Dow Jones reports. The cuts will hit accounting, auditing, personnel and strategic planning. The Board room will also suffer with three chairs removed down to nine members from 12. Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche and Bodo Uebber and Rudiger Grube will now wear two hats.

Mr. Uebber will continue to be responsible for finance and controlling, as well as for the DaimlerChrysler Financial Services division. Mr. Grube will continue to be responsible for corporate development and the company's stake in European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co.

Zetsche said in a statement that, there will be greater cooperation between the Mercedes Car Group and the Chrysler group. “You can expect to see more examples of collaborations,” Zetsche said and pointed to Chrysler’s used of the Mercedes-Benz rear-wheel drive in the development of the Chrysler 300 sedan. More joint efforts like the Mercedes-Benz/Chrysler collaboration on developing hybrid engines, Zetsche said.

The moves are the first major decision by Mr. Zetsche since he took over the helm at the auto maker on January 1. Zetsche cut 8,500 jobs from Mercedes when he took over that division last September.
