Toyota isn't kidding when they say their trucks are "toyota tough"
wow....thats amazing... the stone wall a the beginning would have totalled a cavalier...
Dude if I had the resources I would so buy an old pickup and do most of that!

I'll have to show this to my manager at work...he drives an 87 Toyota Pickup and swears by it
The straight axle 85+older are even tougher. I have an 85 4x4 thats been in the family since new and has been rolled, wrecked, ramped, had water over the hood in a creek several times, etc. and I still daily drive it

Nothing but basic maintenance has been done to it.
I've owned a lot of cars and it has out lived them all for the 8+years that I've had it. I ended up restoring it last year and putting a lift on it because it'll be around for a long time.

You sure about the solid axle in the 85 and prior? i worked with a guy who has a 85 yota truck with IFS. And yes, the thing is a beast and will not die after over 350,000 miles on it. he has the venerable 22R motor.
86+had the IFS. Unless maybe it was a real late 85 production date....
My father bought my 85 new. 85 is supposed to be the year to have because it was the only year you could get the 22re option (fuel injection), straight axle, and extended cab on a 4x4.
Which mine has all of them.
I'd like to find a factory turbo one.
I have an '88 that was originally a V6, but now has a rebuilt '86 22RE in it.... I have owned it since April and haven't had any problems with it. I love to drive it.

Seriously man. I say get an old Toyota pickup truck or
an old 4runner,
I agree, my friend has an older 4runner and those things are beasts.
That was a great video clip. If they would of made that segment when the vehicle first came out, it would of been a great selling strategy.
Have a good one,
Justin

Really thinking about it now, after the insane amount of damage that truck went through I'm pretty much sold. Totally right for the winter though, even the army should consider using these
rofl. I have an 80's toyota truck in my back lot here at work. I'm thinking... Diesel swap?
Beat the piss out of it?
had an 85 Celica GTS, with the 22RE. it had a fuel valve that went bad, and I couldn't find it and needed better transportation, so I sold it. last year of the RWD Celica. it had IRS in it too. I loved that thing.
I remember when I was a kid, one of my dad's friends had a mid 70's toyota truck that was virtually unstoppable. I love those trucks.

bah, tripple posting is the devil. This is my bitch when the civic is acting up.
It kinda doesn't make any sense. How wasn't the gauge cluster, wheel, seats, etc all make it just fine when it was set on fire? When they bring the truck on the set and the camera looks inside, the seats and gauge cluster are fine. I know for a fact they aren't steel either, lol.
I love the dramatic superhero music though they play when the truck is OK or they are doing something else to it, LOL
*tree sitting there*
*dramatic music*
*truck comes on screen*
SMASH
LOL
repost but i watched it again cuz i enjoyed it
one of the reasons l like tacomas and the sort
Wow I didn't know the 22RE was so weak of an engine, performance-wise. I just found that the naturally aspirated 22RE had 105hp and the factory turbo 22RE had 135hp lol. Mine doesn't seem THAT slow, but then again it is bored over slightly.

I'm speechless. Don't be surprised if I come back here in a few months talking about my new truck

I must say, however, I doubt that newer Toyotas are
as tough as the older ones, and was that a diesel ??
they made a diesel reference, but lord knows the
Brits have quirky names for everything.
The over-seas Hilux was available with a 4-banger diesel

They were never here in the states tho
I was actually trying to find a decent, cheap Yota pick-up before I bought my Ranger. Ended up w/ the Ranger b/c winter was only half a corner away. So, who wants to test the "Built Ford Tough"

??? hahahah. All ya gotta do is buy the truck off me, for ... $750 I guess would be alright

BTW, the lift and rims/tires are a photoshop

It's actually stock height & wheels
