yea thats a clip from MTV's true life "I'm a street racer." it was actually interesting to watch.
GO PATS!!!
That is off of MTV, And in Cali they will bust imports for ANYTHING they can find. I hear the cops aren't as bad on V8's. (but the smog stations are a bitch still) Glad I don't live there.

Borsty I know you're a toughguy, and I know you'll probably consider this a personal attack, but don't.
Honestly if you lived out here in california and they asked you to open the hood of your car. You would do no such thing as ask them to suck your pole.
If you have such blatant disregard for the law, why are you still a free man?
Them tickets are pretty hefty out here, it was a 200 dollar and then some ticket for my exhaust. which I got dropped pretty much the next day.
Oh yeah, that'll take the wind out of your sails.
once again, nothing personal. but seriously man. Are you that disrespectful of the law?
wouldn't they need a warrant to open the hood?
if they told me to open the hood, id tell em that the cable is broken to the hood release

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.

they can probably open it for probable cause or something. Just like they can search your car if they thing you have something illegal or whatnot.
I'm so glad the RCMP here in B.C. arn't like that.

With Laws like that I would tell Cali to suck my Pole. I would visit but I would never live there.
Just like WV and VA I would visit but wouldn't live there.

i agree with borsty..its not disrespect for the law in general is just disrespect for probably the only state in the country that would do that....you wont see ME poping my hood for anyone!...and yes VA is a PAIN
yeah I see your guys' points. No wonder nobody really likes cali. god damn...
@!#$ man .. cops here in Michigan will pull you over for not modding your car, lol
dan
Get 'em Jim!
yea cali sucks, and i live here.
i got pulled over on my way to work at 2 in the morning. nobody was around me so i wasn't racing, i set my cruise for 65 (speed limit in cali). he pulled me over because of the tint of my front side windows. how freakin bored was he at 2 in the morning?
anyways, for some reason he wanted me to pop my hood (look in my registry, my car soooo matches the racer profile.../sarcasm). he seen my AEM CARB approved intake and tried to argue with me that it was illegal cuz he couldn't see a sticker (its on the backside of the intake). after i made him feel like a moron, he let me slide for the tint.
thanks to him, i got a point at work for being late. bastard!
GO PATS!!!
That's why you buy old cars to modify in Cali. No emissions and they're rust free...
de cops will pretty much only get you for tint.....
i think like 20 percent of all the cars around here have an exhuast and no one ever gets pulled over for it.....hell i even went through inspection with the flowmaster on and they didn't say anything, so i couldn't imagine living in cali
Well as for the people saying to that they can't make you pop the hood, yes they can. Specially if they are stopping you at a street racing event when they have gotten complaints, witnessed a race, etc. After that, they have reasonable cause and can check whatever they want.
I did not know California had so many ridiculous laws though. I knew of their very tough emissions, but some of that vid is ridiculous and you can tell the cops are getting raging hardon's from the tickets they can give out. The modified air intake? God forbid that probably causes so much pollution. The lowered car thats illegal cause the headlights are under a 22inch mark from the ground?? There are just stupid restrictions. "do you have a sticker that says its legal?", what kind of dumb question is that?? lol. Yes, I'm sure intake companies hand out stickers that say "yes, I'm legal!". Stupid cop, lol
I was stationed in Cali fron 1976-1980 and use to cruise Lancaster and San Bernardino. They were doing that crap way back then. Just pull you over if you drove by too often and try and find something. Personally I don't think it is legal to hassle people bt they do it because they know you aren't going to waste your time trying to sue them for police harassment. Two years I got pulled over the first time I even got near the local cruise area, she said she couldn't see my temporary license sticker and I told her I wasn't moving it because it was where it belonged and she wrote me a speeding ticket for the hell of it. So I went straight to the station, had a talk with her boss and got rid of the ticket. Cops like that deserve to die as far as I am concerned.

Actually it gets worse. Companies have to pass certain regulations so aftermarket items can be used on cars in Cali. (C.A.R.B. I think it is??) Most companies don't do it because it costs alot of $$$ thou. That is one reason why some items are marketed as "50 state legal" and others are "off road use only".

Funny thing, some actually do have stickers to prove that they're legal, someone pointed it out up there that their AEM intake does. Stupid Exodus, lol
haha >.> you know sometimes you can bend the law in your favor...
what says you can't shop a sticker and stick it on a cheap intake?

If they've pulled you over for a crime (street racing) then they have probable cause and can. Still, if they told me stuff was illegal I'd tell them there was no way in hell I was paying that ticket. And frankly if I was racing and cops lit up their lights I'd keep going... if you're already speeding away and presumably your car is fairly quick if you street race...

1. if you don't pay the ticket, you go to court. when you go to court (assuming the ticketing officer shows up), they tell you to pay the ticket (sometimes at a lesser fine because you showed up for court). if you don't pay the ticket, or show up in court, they put a warrant out for your arrest. happened to a few friends of mine.
2. if you were racing, and the cops hit their lights, you'd stop. lets put away the humungus Edick and be real. you'd stop.
3. if your Edick is as big as your real life one, and you didn't stop, they chase you. you'd still get caught and on top of a street racing fine and illegal modification fines, you'd have evading arrest. then add in all the laws you broke while running away; running lights, running stop signs, driving recklessly, speeding, and not using a turn signal (yes they tack on every little thing)...point being, you'd be better off stopping.
4.

we're on a chatboard with j-bodies, we aren't fast. the AVERAGE street racer is a basic bolt on cheap import...they aren't fast either.
