late 80s/early 90s S-10 Blazer(V6, duh)

what's your opinion of it? after Sunday's snowstorm of DOOM, i realized i need something with clearance.

i'm probably going to get one of these with an automatic(hello better towing...), and 4WD...i don't care about how many doors it has. i guess that'll end up being whatever i find first.

does anyone here own one or have experience with them? my roommate's got an 86, and she likes it...

A guy I work with has a '90 K5 Blazer and really likes it. He babies it a lot so I rarely hear of any problems he has with it but they usually don't have horrible problems and hold their own in the crap conditions.

Have a good one,
Justin

I have an 89 non 4x4 with the v6. Damn thing leaks oil, looks like crap, and no heat. But still has never left me stranded and it was cheap. I just got it because I really needed a truck at the moment. Not bad for something that is a point A to B truck. I say if you find one go for it.
Also it isn't that much to put a good lift on a s-10 (compaired to a jeep).

thanks for the info guys.

vid god - i'm not going to lift it - it is meant to be a bad weather/beater truck and nothing more.

see heathers thread

the 4wd models are pretty hard on auto trannies

best would be to get a jeep cherokee , or something with a manual

no manual for crappy weather, and no Jeep...they're overpriced. i'm looking to spend $1500, and at that point i consider it a "disposable" vehicle.

Laura, check out craigslist...I was looking for one a few months ago until the boyfriend talked me out of it, he has heard of too many problems with them.

I had a 87 blazer/tahoe s-10, went through 2 auto tranys and 2x rebuilt motors, ive owned 2 jeep cherokees since then and both have over 100,000 miles with no problems.
The Jeep cherokee is not overpriced

i would never own a Cherokee - the one my cousin's family had broke all the frickin time. that, and i know more people who have had success with their s-10 blazers than with Jeeps.

Laura,

I talked to my buddy yesterday some more about the blazer and he said the only other problems are with the auto trannies and they are usually crap. That and a good bit of rust over time.

One another note, I know you aren't big into Cherokee's but his sister is actually getting rid of her '85 for 1200-1500 bucks if you were interested. It is a carb'd straight six with your usually exterior blemishes. The drivetrain is solid and she spent some extra money to get it maintained. Just wanted to mention that if you were interested at all.

Have a good one,
Justin

i'll discuss with the Scruffness...but i think i'm going to stick with the chebby only because i know i can get parts for it easily(i live down the street from a dealer, if i'm forced to get dealer parts).

i'm just very skeezed about Cherokees. i've never liked driving them, and all the problems i've seen them have in the past really turned me off from the brand. i think the only Jeep i'd consider is a Wrangler, and that's still under consideration - it's basically down to the Wrangler and the Blazer, now.

i suggest an s10 pickup, but a blazer would do just fine lol. we had an 85 4x4, 2.8 5 spd, that thing would go anywhere

I had an 85 S10 Blazzer 2wd. I liked it a lot. But I had the small v6 that had the common problem of the rear main seal going out. Mine leaked of course and I was young/broke and didnt want to mess with trying to fix it. I alsways heard that the bigger v6 was fine.

Oh and I had a 2 chamber flowmaster muffler on it with a the pipe turned down and it sounded damn good. A lot of people siad it sounded like a small 305 V8.

I am all that is man

yours had the 2.8L, right? that was the same one they used in the Z24s back then - i'm trying to steer clear of that one for that very reason.

though i suppose if i found one with a recently swapped motor, i'd be OK for a few years...
