I have been looking at buying a 06 SS Cobalt how do them things runs? are they pretty fast stock? do they have potential?
Well this is actually in the wrong forum, this should be in the Other Cars forum.
They are quick cars, yes. They have plenty of potential, yes.

other cars also is ok for this post
and saying cobalt ss , doesnt give the motor you want
the ss has a 2.4 vvt , or the 2.0 s/c

yeah, that.
the 2.0 s/c cars i believe are running mid to high 14's stock. but with intake, pulley, injectors, exhaust, and a tune, they're making some pretty nice hp numbers. they're rated at 205 hp, but a lot are dynoing higher, one in indy dynoed at 215, and there's a thread on here about one dynoing in the 220's. i think they almost hit 275 with the mods listed above. visit
INTENSE, they have some parts for them

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors

I have had a 06 Cobalt SS 2.4 NA for about 2 weeks now. So far, I am loving it. Traded in my 02 Z24. Stock the SS feels great, torquey and pulls hard at around 4500 rmp. you may want to check out cobaltss.net for more information on the 'balt.

A guy with Intake, exhaust, 3in pulley, short shifter pulled a 13.8 not too long ago.
I love mine, Never had it on the track or Dyno.
But overall for just the build quality over the J is 1000x better. It rides great, so far been problem free and fast as all hell.
So far great car!
i've been in my cousins and i was kinda impressed. but then he got cocky and wanted to race my daytona, well his cobalt ss didn't do so good lol.

Quick yes, but I think "fast as hell" is a bit of an exageration.
The guy(Tofu) who ran 13.8 had an Intake and 3" Pulley with the stock exhaust.

Some people think a high 14 second car is "fast as hell"
My friend's girlfriend had a yellow SS, and it was nothing but problems. They finally lemon lawed it, and bought a new top of the line civic
i just cant see paying $20,000 plus dollars for something that has over 200 hp with a blower.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
^^^99redz24^^^ i agree. they are nice cars but not worth the 20,000 in my opinion.

I think thats why its for the enthusiasts. You've gotta really want one to pay that price. Otherwise you can get a regular cobalt for more standard prices.

* My z28 was 24,500 brand new. I wouldn't pay that much for an ss unless it was pushing 300hp from the factory.
I did get to ride in my cousins 5 speed 2.4 colbalt ss and I was impressed with it. It picked up speed pretty good and would beat my z24 easily.

sorry but they suck, i beat one with my 2.0 neon with just bolt-ons. 1st-2nd pretty close 3-rd i started putting on him. they do look good, and sound ok too. but the performance has a lot to be desired. IMO

already some fake badged SS cobalts huh...

15.574 @ 89 mph stock
Yea bro you raced a 2.4 SS or a fake. If you go to CobaltSS.net and check out some of our slips for the SS\SC average stock is mid 14's. A 3" supercharger pulley and a good launch nets you a high 13.

well, idk about that, but in his defense, DOHC neons do react VERY well to mods, and depending on drivers, its definatly possible....

Your 2.0 neon has a lot to be desired. Crash that crap and get an srt-4 and stop wasting time swaping a motor into it. I got respect for srt-4s but that dohc one nah. And funny thing is even the lowest dynoed cobalt ss you could find is still at like 190 whp. Please tell me your 2.0 neon is at that with just bolt ons. look guy you beat the driver thats all. Don't write off the whole damn car cause you beat one noob. And before you get all uppity with me and wanna make e-threats and suchs I'm over 250 whp in my cobalt so when ever your swap is done if you live close enough and wanna race thats fine by me.
So let me get this straight... your 130 hp, 2.suck neon, beat an SS?
Hmm... every SX 2.suck I've ever driven ran low 17's.
Everyone on here with an SS claims mid to high 14's...
Care to explain, exactly, which bolt ons do you have to take two seconds+?
Before someone else runs their mouth, I am in no way shapr or form a bench racer. Use some common sense; if he beat an SS(Which he may have), it wasn't due to one car being faster than the other.

indeed they do.
as for the rest of you idiots, i have beaten every stock srt-4 i have raced, 3 to be exact and if you think you know your @!#$ it WAS a s/c SS b/c it is a friend of mine, yes it is stock and its not that slow. oh and by the way dohc neons are 150hp stock not 130 smart ass. and as for the rest of you anti-neon guys if you have a stock SS and would like to run me thats fine with me. (you come to my area though)
ps. i am not doing my srt swap im staying all motor.

The 150 DOHC neon is a 2.4. The 2.0 neon/SX has 130 hp. you sir, are the moron.
And unless your "bolt ons" includes an exhaust manifold with a rather large turbo bolted onto it, you didn't touch any SRT 4's. Moron.
