The DSM lives again...

Just thought I'd share... Since I finally finished fixing the Cavalier, I decided to get to work on the Laser. The car hasn't ran in nearly a year, as it had a bad water pump, a busted rear axle, and a few other issues that needed to be addressed. Anyway, I towed the car to my home in Des Moines Iowa from Bellevue Nebraska. I replaced the axle, in fact the entire rear end, drive shaft (found a crack in the old one), and water pump. I replaced ALL the fluids, coolant, oil, everything. Did a full tune up too. I've managed to get the car running and for the most part it's running alright, but it's a little rough and I need to do some tuning to get it right again. At some point this year I want to replace the intake with a Magnus one and a bigger TB, maybe stroke the bottom end, but that all takes money. Anyway, I just wanted to tell someone because I'm fricken excited to have my baby back! 10 second ETs are so close I can smell the ink on the time slip.

Ever one lives 1 page at a time, some stories are longer than others. R.I.P to one of my many best friends. Keep all the tuners safe. See you soon, Love ya man.

Just an update... I really need to stop spending on this car so I can fix my Cavy, but hey, I can drive the Laser again until I get the parts for the Cavy... I got the injectors and the new intake manifold done. A buddy of mine fabbed a sheet metal intake like the Magnus one I wanted, but for a fraction of the cost. I added a used BBK throttlebody a used AEM EMS I picked up from a guy I know. He had it in his VR4, everything was already set up to run. We did a few tweaks here and there and she's running strong now and I'm just waiting on the tracks to open up so I can do some test sessions. I have a dyno session scheduled for next month too.

How much are you looking to put down?

Well the last time I had it on a dyno the engine made a tick over 420hp, but I wasn't at all happy with the fuel and timing maps. There was evidence of detonation and the a/f ratios were seriously lean. With the current setup I hope to get up into the 470-480 mark, and by the time I get the 20G, forged internals and complete the new head I'm seeking over 500 and I think that's pretty realistic.

The picture on my sig is the only shot I have. I don't have a digital camera to take any more, the one I have was taken by one my friends at the VR4 meet. But as far as getting a Laser RS. Depending on the mileage, options, etc, I wouldn't pay more than 2K for it. If it's well taken care of and is in excellent condition, that's a matter of what you think it's worth. They're usually not taken care of too well though, and if you spend 2K on one, count on spending another 2K on top of that just to get it up to spec. Don't get an automatic and make sure it's AWD (not all of them are). FWD is a waste of time with any 4G63 in my opinion, and the automatics are sh*t.
