Took my Cobalt 2.4L to Detroit as a beta tester for ecm tuneing. Car went in with injen CAI and Megan muffler w/ 2.25 rear portion replaced with 2.5in and newly changed synthetic. I believe before the tune it dynoed at 147hp@6400 and 140tq @4400 and in the end dynoed at 159hp@6600 and 150tq@4400. The revlimter was turned up to 7000 from 6700. The a/f ratio was worked on a lot, getting it evened out all the way across the rpm band, stock it had it had alot of spikes and dips. Timing was tweaked a bit, fan kicks in sooner. Car pulls much harder all the way throw the rpm band and keeps climbing up to the 7000 limiter. A lot was gained at the low-mid range tq, around 3500 the thing takes off. And mpg went up about 2-3. I'll get pics up tommorow with the new 18" S/C wheels.

sweet
glad you guys are getting some support
nice numbers too
I thought the stock 2.4 ecos had a higher hp/torque rating than that. I'm sure somebody'll say something about it.

his hp and tq are about average for the 2.4 eco
stock flywheel is around 170
Ok, that solves it all. I keep hearing 170 blah blah blah but I must not have read them saying it's from the flywheel. Good to hear the 2.4s are getting some upgrades.

Got to the track today. First day so not much rubber and only got three runs in before i had to run. all three runs were 9.9's, best was 9.93. 60fts where 2.4.Car gets mad wheel hop, so i will be putting in some poly control arm bushings that will hopefully eliminate most if not all of it. Defintaly need practice on launching, first manual car i've driven at the track with. Hopefully with that and the bushings we'll see some 9.8's, 9.7's.

Roughly what would that be in the 1/4?

i was wondering the same thing..
For most cars I would guess around a mid 15. Given the top end pull of of the 2.4, I could see a lower 15 out of a run like that, specialy if the increased RPM keeps the car in 3rd across the line. An improved driver could easily get in the 14s with that combo. Something to shoot for this season

.
Im willing to bet some high 13s all motor are possible when more parts are avalible. Specialy ones that take advantage of the tuning avalible through the ECM. Add in traction, a good driver and some minor weight reduction and 2.4SS cobalts could be fairly stout without forced induction.

Well I took my srt swapped first gen neon out to the track last wednesday and friday... got in some good runs.. was tryin to find a 1/8th mile time similar to his... the closet thing I could find was against a stock 240 hatchback it ran a 10.3 @ 67.9 in the 1.8th and a 16.1 @76.5 in the quarter.. so I would say dependin on the top end of the car.. low 15.s and quit possibly a high high 14! also depends on the track elevation, prep, driver skill, bla bla!!!
But I would say they are good for mid to low 15.'s stock? Possible 14!!
So that tuned 2.4 should hang pretty close to the supercharger cobalts? Maybe even beat some?

All the stock dyno numbers from supercharged SS's have all been a hair over 200whp. I'd say the SS S/Ced with still kill the tuned 2.4 pretty easy.

I wouldn't say it's going till kill it pretty easily.. A stock Cobalt SS/supercharged will run 14.7.. If you can get the tuned cobalt 2.4 running a 14.9, that would almost be drivers race, if you ask me...

there is a guy in canada that ran a 15.1 in his 2.4 5spd stock
itll make for alot more interesting racing between the 2
That's a better than I thought then.. I like to see how the 2.0 SC is going to "kill" the tuned 2.4 then!!

PFT ! My 2.2 ECO is turning 14.8 and I'm N/A !
Good numbers man keep it up !

When 2 cars are exactly the same and one has 40whp more than the other, its going to kill it.

Stock cobalt is 205 hp.. Stock 2.4 Cobalt is 171 hp. 34 hp difference. The SS SC comes with heavy 18" wheels. The SS comes with lighter 16's or 17's, I can't remember.. The SS is tuned, so it's going to be bumping that HP to around 180HP I'm guessing? Maybe more? Maybe the SS SC will win.. But I still wouldn't say it's going to "kill" it.

the worste part of the ss/sc is traction , the 2 do not get along in in the ss/sc
lol

There is still over a 40whp difference, so yes, the SS s/c will
kill it. 17" wheels vs 18" wheels isn't going to out-weigh 40+whp.
