ok, I know this has been asked before, and the answer i got was NO. but i just saw someone mention on another thread (i think shifted, the thread about cobalt conversion on a cav in the exterior forum). that you can buy the base cobalt for 13k and add the SC to it......................... is this actually possible? thanks in advance
You can sc any engine you want as long as you have the money.
ok I know that^^^
but I mean wil the GM SC for the 2.2 eco for J bodies fit on the 2.2 eco cobalt motor? like can the dealership out it on the car and reflash the PCM?
i would think so
i mean its the same motor
maybe the PCM is different and youd have to get a different reflash
i dunno
No you cannot use the SC made for J's on the Cobalt. It's not because it won't fit, its because GM does not offer a flash for the cobalt (hence no kit made specifically for it), and HPTuners doesnt support the 2.2 Eco found in the COBALT yet, even though its the same motor as the one in the Js.
Bottom line: Until the ECM is cracked on the 2.2 Cobalt, no SC for it.
Hope that clears it up.

^^ it sure does, thanks alot!
actually...thats not entirely true. what they mean is, the dealer can't just do a PCM flash with some injectors and call it tuned...you can manually tune it with a piggyback system such as an emanage or megasquirt or something, but the supercharger will bolt on and be effective no problem. only custom work would be adapting the throttle by wire to the s/c but that may be easy too Im not really sure. If you get one from an SS then your problem is solved as far as physical hookup...tuning can be done with little to no problems if you do even the smallest amount of homework...so yes it CAN be done...easily as far as I'm concerned
there will be left over parts , using the kit on a cobalt
and tuning is on your own , hp tuners should be out soon
hmm the thing is im not mechanically inclined. I can do any type of bodywork, but when it comes to engines.. i dont know jack. thats why i was asking if it can be installed at a GM dealership.... with warranty. but i guess not. thanks anyway
its really not as hard as you'd think. get someone local to you to come assist, I learned everything I know...having someone assist me in doin it. If you can do body work, you can do this. There's a lot more critical errors to make in body work then puttin on a supercharger....just bolt it in, make sure everything is snug, maybe reroute some lines and wires and voila you're done. as for warranty...as long as you're not doin pulley swaps i don't think I'd sweat your engine at all
