Ok I wasn't sure if i should put this in the "other vehicles" forum or not but my girlfriend is getting an older beretta (not sure exact year, but around 94') from her sister for free untill she can buy her own and I guess they think the tie rods need to be checked out and I told her I would try take a look at it out for her so can anybody help me out on how to check tie rods? Thanks for any help and if I should throw this into the other forum let me know.
Pretty easy thing to check with the wheels on the ground, Just start the car turn the steering wheel is their any kind of play movement Possible youre tie rod ends are worn, If so just get the car up on jack stands, Inspect them on visually for cracked boot covers or damage.
Good Luck
hell. just change them out if she buys the car, cheap insurance if the previous owner *thinks* there might be an issue with the tie rod ends
$35.00 a side. Checks are like stated.

swap em out get an alignment and be done
Hell, if it's a crappy beater car you can just crack the nut slightly and then count the number of rotations the tie rod takes to remove. Tighten the new tie rod on the same amount of turns. That way you won't need an alignment. Real easy fix. Probably takes an hour to do with a floor jack and jack stands. 15 mins with a lift.
If she wants to make the car nice and/or has nice tires on it, go get it aligned afterwards.
