this is getting childish. I don't understand how anyone can call
the SMG lousy with a straight face. Wasn't the darn thing bred
from F1 technology? Isn't it the most liveable transmission on
this whole freaking planet? German bias is just as lousy as US
bias. Anyhow, here my 2 cents (assuming I didn't spend them
in the above rant):
if you want an uber-fast car and you already have a daily driver = Z06
if you want a fast car you can live with on a daily basis = M6 (or preferably the M5)
if you want something 1000x sexier than the M6 = XJR
I'm a big BMW fan, but if I had to chose right now... I'd take the Jag.

I will not only tell you with a straight face, but with a serious face.
SMG is a gimmick in production form, as every shift goes through you'll feel a
push/pull feel of a manual, but here the damn tranny is a automatic. The ONLY semi-automatic
tranny that really works as it should, is found in Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Hey, you call it "German bias," I call it German recognition of what the car really is.
Sorry, just because the price tag is huge and it's German made, does not mean instant perfection.
Infact that way of of thinking is dated and ignorant.

01) this whole "SMG is an automatic" argument is boring, and it will plague solid debates
as long as one manual tranny fanatic breathes breath on this planet. BMW, Audi, and
Ferrari are trying to offer the consumer an alternative to a standard-standard transmission.
I admire that. Sure, not all smgs are made the same, and sure some need work, but they
are getting better. I hate when people (let alone industry experts) refuse to give a decent
idea a fair chance.
02) auto bias is what's killing the US auto industry, I'll be damned if I spread the hate to
the import sector with unfounded allegations. Mr.Goodwrench, I respect your opinions
(hell I stick around the org for your posts), but I think you have sooo much accumulated
good-will towards the domestic segment that you refuse the recognize other brands. It's
hypocritical really, everybody buys Toyota because they assume they're reliable; truth be
known, their recent recall record is putting domestics to shame (in a good way) -- good
will is a bitch; its what blinds consumers to the truth.
03) German cars are not perfection because they're German. If I sounded that way than
I truly apologize.
04) I think people should buy cars on an individual basis. Don't judge all GMs because
once upon a time GM cars used to have poor fit and finish, Don't judge hyundai because
they once made the Pony. Don't judge toyota because your neighbor's old corolla lasted
longer than george burns. Don't judge german car's because they used to be expensive
to purchase and uber-expensive to repair. Like I said earlier, I like BMWs, but I'm not
completely stupid. I know the Z06 is better, I would test-drive the XJR first and wouldn't
buy an M6 (despite the fact I like bmws I despise the 6 series styling... I see more value
in the M5.. especially the older e39 M5).
05) whoever said a Jag is a glorified ford needs to remove their head from their posterior.
