you can only get a 5-speed in a 4-cylinder base model car, so you're really not moving up a whole lot in luxury appointments over a sunfire, and it will most likely not be any faster.

hes still moving up from the cavy. It doesnt look as cheap inside, rides nicer and is more comfy. I drove one whenever one of my cars broke down.
also thinkin bout my buddy's 2000 Ford Contour SVT. Its totally loaded, moonroof, power everything, 5spd literally LOADED, and he only wants what he owes $5800 and N.A.D.A. on it is $7200

i would say a nice interior,Independent rear suspension and 4 Wheel disc breaks are quite a move up in the ranks
here was mine
Garbage cars. IMO. plus its a GM , nuff said.
I know 2 people with alero's, and 2 people with Grand Ams, both pretty much the same car mechanically.
none have been reliable, and the guy with the alero 5 speed, its a 2001, has had the oil pump take out his engine twice.
if that 03 has the Ecotec it might not be as bad... but ya...
**Wow, you know what? One t ime, I got a phone call, from a telemarketer! And they were like OMGWTFBBQ do you wanna buy car insurance? And I was like LMAOTTYLOMGWTF no! This ish is crazy!!!**
I've had 5 N's (2.4 GA, Ecotec GA, 3400 GAGT (x2), 3400 Alero) and never had a problem so bad it killed the engine. The worst was the alero with the LIM gasket, but that's fixed, the Ecotec GA had a vacuum line problem periodically, but changing the offending line with a new one fixed that.
The 2.2 ecotec and 5 spd is a fun combination, you get the best of both worlds: the parts selection of the J's and the interior room and better brakes of the N's.
I'd get it looked over one way or the other, and when you get it, do an oil flush and top up with a synthetic 5w30 or whatever the reccommended grade is. The first upgrade I'd get if I were you is a set of Brembo OE replacement Rotors and good ceramic pads, maybe a set of earl's braided brake lines. The factory stock ones are trash.

well i am leanin towards my buddy's contour svt actually. He said its good in the snow and i read a couple reviews on the alero that said it wasn't that good in the snow. Also thinkin bout gettin an older Wbody like my old 94 cutlass supreme 2door i had, loved that car
I've never had a problem with my N's in the snow that wasn't already a problem with the tires (ie tread-depth was too shallow/using cheap All-seasons instead of decent snow tires).
I haven't had any contact with a Contour SVT...
