AWD hatches
Sunday, October 15, 2006 11:27 AM
so my car is paid off and i may finally be in the market for a car.

i want something awd if possible i go snowboarding ALOT. and i want a hatch to make sure i can load cargo in and out easy.

whatc ars are their?

i know their is the caliber rt and the matrix/vibe

i like the way the vibe looks but the power seems a bit low. I like the idea of 172hp in the awd caliber but i cant decide on the looks. i dont like them stock but with rims and the razzi kit i think they can look pretty hot.

awd calibers are 0-60 in 11 seconds slow despite having 172hp.
an awd vibe/ matrix, impreza wagon or saab 9-2X are great choices.

WRX wagon FTW. Awd vibe only comes in auto and is slowwwww. Caliber is still expensive.

If you are only going to use this car during a certain season or for mostly going to the slopes, just get an older suv and drive the car you have now the rest of the time. You can get 4wd blazers for 3500.

I'd also vote for a Subaru wagon, but that's because I own one & love it! You can pick up a used one under $20k and they run forever. Why new or 1 year old? I can't speak for cargo room on the others, but my Outback would have more than enough space for snowboard gear. Last night we bought a 50 gallon trash can & then went grocery shopping at BJs - cargo room makes me smile

yeah, my friend just bought a new impreza wagon (non turbo auto), and
it had some serious pep. I pushed it fairly hard, and I was very pleased
with the handling. I know you already said you don't want a subaru, but
I would strongly suggest the 9-2X. I see 2005 aeros (wrx) for 19,000usd
on ebay with only 9k miles (makes me wish I lived in the States.. same
car is $26,000 here)

unfortunately, all those wagons cost more than 20k new,
and they're repair nightmares used... all except the saab
9-2X which is a reskinned Impreza.

i think the compass looks MUCH better than the caliber. and i could care less wether it is a bastardization of the jeep name or not. i think it looks pretty damn good.

i wish the hhr came in awd. it would already be in my driveway if it did.

It isn't a SUV. It's a cross over on the same body as the Compass or Caliber.

I think it looks WAY better than the Compass and Caliber. Plus it does have an available low range in the awd, and with the low range package, the high is lifted to make it look like an SUV.
