What's really funny is reading the 2006 NHRA Sport Compact Rulebook and updates. All the Ecotec specific rules are incredible. All the other cars are getting closer, Ecotec didn't win in Pro FWD or Modified this year. Just Hot Rod with Ron Lummis.
Hot Rod class:
Page 49 (eff 11/30/05)
Turbocharger: Second paragraph, first sentence, beginning with Ecotec engine limited to maximum 66mm turbo, change 67.25mm (2.648 inches) to 67.37mm (2.652 inches). (Ecotec limit is 66mm while everyone else gets 67.37mm. Doesn't seem like much, but it is.)
Weight Limits for Hot Rod class (there's more but I won't list them all):
Motor......................1 power adder w/ OEM trans.....................................2 power adder w/ OEM trans
-GM Ecotec Series......................2200................................................................................2400
-Mitsu 4G63........................1900................................................................................2100
-Honda B16 Series.....................1800................................................................................2000
-Honda B18 Series......................1900................................................................................2100
-Moper 2.4 Series (SRT)......................1900................................................................................2100
Just look at the difference in minimum weights LOL.
Modified class (which is a RWD class but the Ecotec is allowed in):
Page 55 (eff 11/30/05)
Turbocharger: First heading under Turbocharger, change All Applications to Six-cylinder and Ecotec applications. Relates to inlet flange size not being allowed to be larger than "T04 specs" in any direction.)
AND

-RWD 4 cylinder, up to 2.4L, ECOTEC motor, 1 or 2 P/A: 2400
-RWD 4 cylinder, up to 2.6L, 1 or 2 P/A: 2200

-RWD 2 Rotor, 1 or 2 P/A: 2000
-RWD or AWD 6 cylinder, up to 3.5L, 1 P/A ONLY, 2800
Look at the weight differences again.
Weight Limits for Pro FWD class:
-FWD 4 cylinder, Ecotec, 1 P/A: 2050
-FWD 4 cylinder, all others, 1 P/A: 1750
-FWD 4 cylinder, Ecotec, 2 P/A: 2150
-FWD 4 cylinder, all others, 2 P/A: 1850
How's that for a little light reading. There are already changes being discussed for 2007 but I think it's almost level. Although if Jason hunt hadn't had his motorcyle accident, he's doing better BTW just hurting a bit still, he would have run away again.
