My new 97 Eagle Talon
Wednesday, December 06, 2006 4:27 PM
I found the only car that is more ricey than mine and could not let this stand, I had to buy it.

1997 Eagle Talon.

Mods:
Painted Yellow Calipers. (Strictly adhering to the established color scheme of the vehicle: red and white)
Custom painted (with a rattle can I suspect) white stripes. (bling bling)
Tint (hasn't turned purple yet.. keeping my fingers crossed. lol)
Eclipse GSX 20ft tall spoiler. (you know what they say about big wings... )
Custom black spots inside of one of the headlights. (clean)
Custom busted mirror adjustor on the driver side. (FnF inspired)
Custom hatch shocks that that don't hold the hatch open. (JDM y0)

I'm friggen excited. As stupid as it may sound my dream car is a 95-99 DSM. They're impossible to find where I live, and when they do turn up they are almost always beat into a pile of junk But this weekend I found a 1997 Eagle Talon for sale at a local lot in what appears to be great condition minus the rediculous rice... (time will tell though..). It does have some rough spots about it, but for the age and type of car I couldn't hope for much better.. not locally anyway.

Now if I could just stop granny shifting instead of double clutching like I should maybe I could stop blowing the welds on my intake.. I'm coming for ya Brian Spillman!

Spilner. Looks pretty nice, what kind of miles does it have?

Spilner... Ooops. Oh well

114k miles. I wish it had about 100k less.. but what can ya do. It runs good, and the body is in great shape. No real noticable dents and no rust that I can see. The interior is also in good condition with only 1 noticable thing that needs to be replaced, the driver side mirror adjustor. All in all not too shabby.

usually ridiculous rice = beat to hell
but hey at least its startin to look like your other car! ha
only kidding

Re: My new 97 Eagle Talon

Nope, just a base model. I guess the wing is ok, it's not my favorite but it isn't horrible. I like the wing they put on some of the eclipse models better.. it's a rounded wing, but not nearly as tall, and continues onto pieces on the quarter panels. I can't complain though, this is the best DSM i've seen in my area in years, and it doesn't have that hideous Talon spoiler that wraps around the entire trunk of the car.

yeah that smaller wing is found on all of the non turbo eclipses. 420A power!!! *cough*..... I never see NA 2nd gen talons around. Yeah just put the NA eclipse wing on and take the stripes off and it would a huge improvement. i think you can put the eclipse tails in if you dont like the giant "talon" on the back. so how much did you pick that up for?

420A = neon wanna be

4G63 = DSM

bah, theres so many dsms for sale in the northwest. my friend just picked up a 12 second 1g for a 1000. the problem is that the 4g63 is not as stable platform as everyone thinks. about half of the people i know with dsms have a blown up one parked somewhere...

Thats because they beat the @!#$ out of them till they blow up, and then bitch about how un-reliable there are.

well and the 2g's have horrid crank-walk, damn people and making too long of cranks... yeah the owners do beat them pretty badly. but considering it is an interference motor, it isnt the most reliable....

Crank walk is over stated. As A club DSM member for about 12 years now, I know of two cases in my area. There are litterally hundreds of members in this area. 2.. Count them, 2. My 96 has about 180 000 km on it, never any problem with the bottom end. Did have a spark plug electrod brake off and jam an exhaust valve, and costing me a new head. That is the worst problem I have had with it in 8 years of ownership as a daily driver. $4 spark plug was the cause.. Booo. NGK says someone must have dropped it prior to selling it to me. I know I didn't drop it.. Oh well, water under the bridge now.

^all talons had hoods like that, even my buddies 90 tsi had the same style hood, @!#$ even my daytona iroc had a hood like that.

lots of ppl dont understand, cars need to be maintainted regular to last long. my buddies 90 tsi had 300,000kms on it and still ran and drove like new. he looked after it. my 98 awd talon had 110,000kms on it and ran like new only problem i had was the tranny and that was my own fault.

DSM is my dream car, not necessarily this one.

Why did I buy a non-boosted DSM? Because all of the boosted ones I've managed to find (not many) are in need of serious repair. It's a DAILY DRIVER. An unboosted daily driver is fine for me. It is precisely the kind of car I've always wanted (DSM), and since I'm more concerned with getting decent fuel economy with this car rather than decent track times, it is fine.

I can't find any rust on this car, and the interior is in spectacular shape for it's age. This car allows me to keep the salt and the miles off of the Cavalier, which is my project car.. It is the perfect car to meet my needs and I'm happy with it so far.

Stored Cavalier + Fun daily driver/winter beater = winner in my book.

As for the 420A.. I can't complain (yet). It seems slow as balls, but not TOO horrible.

^trust me man they are slow as @!#$. my buddy had a 95 avenger 5speed, with intake, header and full exhaust and my 96 auto Z24 w/ a warm air intake walked his car easily..
