an engine that randomly breaks timing chains under 50k causing the need for a complete valve job at the least? i would seriously worry about the other engines on that list if the eco made it..
remember just because its the best engine a j ever saw. doesnt mean its a good engines

Just bare in mind that most of the engines on that list haven't seen 50,000 Miles yet.

And now for something completely different... Click the Minister.
Define "best".
Best performance, reliability, bang per buck, technology, most fuel effecient... a mix.. if so, what are the mix ratios?
Means nothing.

Don't forget cylinder liners eaten up as well. TSB is out too.
&
The bold statement is questionable too.
IMO the ONLY "Ecotec" that deserves recognition is the LNF 2.0L Turbo.

your narrow mindedness is whats wrong with this picture.....
i was kind of suprised there wasnt an LSx on the list but after reading what they based it on, it made some sense

personal experience I take it?

mr good wrench has a werid vendetta with the motors. I think hes just irrateted at the cult following the have on hear and how there worsipped. above what they should be.
Ive talked to alot of unbiased mechs and they all have there own issues with the motor. I dont fully understand what the deal is, there great from everything ive ever incounted they hold power, they do what I ask, and if theres other problems, I havent seen them yet.

Just because you have only seen one issue on the JBO, does not mean the problem does not exist. I've seen it when I was working for at Mercedes on a rental 2003 Cavalier and on one 2002 Cavalier at the dealership when I went to get my re-flash for the S/C.
Remember, there are only 30K-40K members here maybe 500-1000 that are active. Ecotecs are run of the mill motors that are installed on Saturn, Pontiac, Opel, Chevrolet, Vauxhall, etc. Since 1999 all the way till today, there may be over 2 million Ecotecs on this Earth. And those 2 million are not going to be posting on JBO when a chain fails, so the logic of: "if it is not posted on JBO, it does not exist," does not hold water.
By the way if you want to read on how the cylinder liners issue here it is. Also there some other issues as well.

And the days of me finding more TSBs are over, so now I don't have the latest info on TSBs

I wonder if GM is having the same oil sludging problems like we (Dodge) are having with the 2.7L V-6s, and Toyota's having with the 1.8L 4cyls. The sludge starves the chains of oil and they overheat and snap.
