Corvette to get diesel power for 2009
Chevrolet has announced that they will introduce a diesel-powered Corvette next spring as a 2009 model. The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette TDI will be powered by a specially-designed 5.7 liter V8 diesel with twin turbochargers. Output for the engine, developed in cooperation with Isuzu, is estimated at 350 horsepower and 675 lb-ft of torque.
"We feel that with its high fuel economy and strong low-end torque characteristics, the turbodiesel is the perfect engine for the Corvette," says a General Motors spokesperson. Early tests indicate that the Corvette TDI accelerates from 0 to 60 in just over 4 seconds and achieves real-world fuel economy of 25 to 30 MPG.
Chevrolet has hinted that if the Corvette TDI is a hit with buyers, they may consider phasing out gasoline-powered Corvettes altogether and making the turbodiesel engine the exclusive power plant for the iconic American sports car.

Diesel Corvette, awesome, id love to buy it. But phasing out the Gasoline engine completely...there asking for problems..
def different and worth a try but phasing out the gas engine is just stupid and asking for hatred from everyone.
nice joke

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
We make diesel injector parts at my work for Siemens, to go into some sort of Mercedes sports car, a v-12 or something. so this may not be all that far off...in fact it may be a near future prediction, like 20 years or less.
Of course, removing all gas powered versions of a certain car would be ridiculous, at least not until a better fuel came out.

Mercedes has been using diesel engines for years though.
According to where i am, i read it on Apr 2...does that mean it was still april fools day? haha. Yeah I almost had to go find good ole bob lutz and slap him for it then realised that it was indeed a joke.. good joke though
If Gm ever Made A Hybrid Corvette I would drive mine through the Front doors of GM headquarters. Corvettes will always been Gas powered until we have some super Space age fuel for them... lol
thruthfully it wouldn't be that bad. Look at the La Mans cars... The Audi, Panoz, Caddys (while the had protype 1 cars, before the CTS-V) and the Radical cars all run Turbo Diesel. And they flat out, hands down out last all the cars on the track, and are much faster.
Real world, no, probably never happen. But if done right, it'd be pretty bad ass.

yes they have, but never in a "super car" like the SLK-GTR or the likes, I believe.
we are making these for preproduction motors, basically prototypes that are mass production quality. I might be able to sneak a pic tomorrow to share with all of you. All we make currently for the project are the nozzle nuts, but we hope to make more of the injector assembly in the near future.
