saw an ecotec at the yard!

first of all, I dnt know if it is the right place to post this. so, forgive me if its not. I went to the junkyard with a friend today. He was looking for parts for his truck. when I was about to walk out, I saw a car with an ecotec engine in it. It was an 05. couldnt tell wat it was but more than likely it was a malibu. now, cars this new are way too rare on this yard. The car was hit in the front. The radiator and candenser are all damage and the front is all smashed in against the engine. I took a good look at the damage and luckly theres no damage to the engine. if any, the intake is broken but dnt think so. Im planning on doing an engine swa on my 2200 cavalier pretty soon, so I thought this is a great oportunity to get the main piece. engines at this location are around $175.

anybody knows if all the ecos are interchangeable? are there minor differences? and wat could you tell me about the tranny.

I would imagine they're the same.

My 04 cav's ecotec is different than my friends G6 ecotec in looks, layout, etc. I don't know the specifics if anything mechanically is different though.

I would guess it is all the same. But just pull the whole thing and don't forget the wiring harness and the ecu too

The 2.2L ecotec in the malibu is the same engine sans the power steering pump.

awsome! thanks guys! i looked up on the net the specs for both cars (05 malibu n 03 cavalier) and found out that both have the same engine specs. I would imagine that the only thing different would be the accesories. I looked up the trans specs as well and they're both the same. although the cav has the 4-speed auto 4t40 trans and the malibu has the 4-speed 4t45. i have to check and see if it bolts right up. I will do this next week sat since i work all week n have no time to go take it off. I hope nobody takes it meanwhile. wish me luck guys!
