It's a 1997 Civic EX with 125,000 miles with a 5-speed. I don't know a lot about these cars, and I'm hoping to look at one tomorrow morning. Could someone give me a general rundown of them?
Since it's an EX, does it have V-Tec? What motor does it even have? 1.8l?
Help please!
It will have the D16Y8.... Its a 1.6 SOHC VTEC motor... makes like 130-132(i dont remember exactly) hp and like 106 ft/lbs... Its a 1.6L
Ummmm, lets see... They run around a 16.7 in the 1/4, they are limited at 120(which is about all they are capable of stock anyway). As long as the oil changes have been kept up with, the motor will still be strong... but some of the other components might be about to take a crap. They get pretty damn good milage, mid-high 20's city, mid-high 30's highway... They are good in crashes, my buddy had a 98 ex, and he clipped a van on the interstate, spun 7 times, and ate a guardrail... he was going 85 at the beginning of all that, and he walked away completely unharmed... aside from catching the airbag in the face.
If you are looking for something to make fast, you would want to ditch the motor. If you just want A to B with good milage, and a slight funfactor(not a complete dog like the non-vtec's), then its a good car. Hope that helped some... my buddy had one for 3 years, so I know a bit about them.
if you live where you get snow, there garbage in the snow 2 of my friends have them, and sloppy in the snow, they ice skate basically lol, nothing like the cavi's, (which i think r tanks in the snow)

no doubt, my J-body was awesome in the snow. Hondas aren't that bad in snow...but...they are lighter in the frontend than a J-body so they don't handle as well.

That's why you get good (and narrow!!! cut through the slush) snow tires, and throw a couple of big bags/boxes kitty litter in the rear of the car.
I find that they get hung up quite easily in snow, but that's not a big issue if you don't drive in deep snow alot. One other thing I found was that the stock batteries do not do too well in extreme cold, if the car sits for more than day or two it won't start.
But other than that I like those Civics better than any other generation. They handle really nicely, good on gas, they really aren't that slow for a compact, and they look pretty good. In general it's probably a good buy. And there is a ton of aftermarket support if you ever did wanna do something to it.
I don't know what you guys are driving, but my J is @!#$ in the snow. I've never driven anything worse.
I'd rather drive drunk than drive a J in the snow, I'd have better control
(No, I've never driven drunk)
