I was looking at craigslist for my area and decided to look at miata's. I went to the internation speedway up here in new hampshire, and they have events going on everyday. I think today was just a free track run and there were the usual bmw's, porsches, corvettes, mustangs, evo's, lotus's and a couple mercs. But there were a lot, and I mean a LOT of miata's.
I think they were spec miatas but they kept up with almost every car, so I was wondering how much potential these things have for a street build.
It seems like the engine bay is invredibly small, and being fwd these things have no weight to get the power to the ground.
Any opinions?
?
miatas are rwd, and an absolutly amazing track car. I want one really bad. Not alot of power, but perfect handling. A turbo can fix that though.

Go Go OG Traction!!
you can shoehorn a 5.0 in one
Yeah if I wasnt 6'4 I'd get one but I drove my friends once and it felt like a clown car to me.
Fun cars though, and yeah they're RWD.

How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
toss in an f20c... there is a kit available...
Miatas are great little packages, they're cheap (now...), they have really been embraced by the tuner and racing community. They're the true revival of an affordable roadster, and Mazda did it right.
If you're looking for a track whore, they're a good choice.

If I were to get one, I'd see if cramming an H22/K20 or Ecotec and 6 spd seq. trans would be possible assuming the stock engine wasn't doing well. They can be turboed and run fine with low-med boost.
