Interesting.
Before John De Lorean died, he had said that there was plans to build a new car starting 2008... maybe it's still on the books?
wonder if they are still coming with snow in them

For $57.5k, I would think so.

sweet , white lines for everyone
The thing is, its not really a "return". All they are doing is taking the largest collection of spare original delorean parts in existence and using those already-made parts to build new whole cars. So really, they're producing a bigger need for spare parts while reducing the supply. Not really a good strategy if you ask me. I'm sure they can parlay this into making a "new" delorean, or reproducing the original parts once they begin to run low, but as of right now its basically just building new cars out of old spares.

A more in depth story than this one that I read in the newspaper yesterday said that was what they were doing, taking the spares and using them to build new cars out of parts produced for assembly but never used. I'm sure some parts will have to be made from scratch as I can't imagine there were very many chassis' built and not used, but they even went so far as to say there was some concern about the project since they only have X amount of original doors left and still need to keep some around to sell as spares to current owners. I can only tell you as much as i've read, which isn't much. Maybe its something all new, but so far everything I've read seems to indicate the opposite.

I think it would be bad ass if they GM were to by the rights to the Delorean and bring it back done right this time around.

LS2 powered DeLorean FTW!
1989 Z24 Convertible - Dust Covered
2006 tC - Dust Covered, but driven more
So they are remaking a unique sports car from the 80's entierly the same, yet charging almost as much as a base C6 Corvette...?
Yea, that'll sell . . .
^^^I'm with him. Who in their right mind would buy that car at that price? If some other company bought the rights to the car, changed out the stainless panels for a lighter/cheaper material, and put a better engine in it then it'd probably sell better.

The Stainless steel was actually very cool... Except for the fingerprints it ALWAYS accumulated.
Instead of changing the panels:
- Make the pan Rigid, either using CF or aluminum frame/composites or steel.
- Put in a RWD midengine High-efficiency V8
- PAINT THE SHEET METAL WITH AT LEAST A CLEAR-COAT
- Sequential 6 spd.
- Proper electrical loom, charging system and LOCKS!!!
- Properly weighted door assistance or lighter doors.
Gee, you're not asking much, are ya?

Well if you were buying a sports car, wouldn't you like to have some of these USEFUL features that have been standard for years apon years, rather then buying some stoneage car that costs the amount of a base Corvette that would rip this thing a new one???
They have to be way off with that price. I can see a brand new Delorean going for 25-30K tops. Anything over that is just bending you over and ass raping you without any lube whatsoever.
