Hey,
My buddy informed me that I can prolly have his 87 Corolla. I told him to hold on to it until I get back from college and when I get back we'll fix it up and pimp it out.
I chopped this, and this is kinda where I wanna go with it but I'm still open for what else to add.
So...If you had one...what would you do???
The only thing is that the engine, unless it's something easy and cheap, is just getting rebuilt.
I think the whole thing with this car will be a cool but cheap thing although I do plan on covering all bases. I'll prolly strip the car all down and fix all rust, paint the underside, fix the interior, make it a good running car (atm it burns about a quart of oil a week if not more), etc.
Feel free to throw up some chops.
Let me know.

id keep it as a better. why dump thousands into a car thats 20 years old?

well now just because a car is around 20 years old or older doesnt mean you cant put thousands into it hence classic and muscle cars
20 valve 4AG-E for the win... Seriously though, its not an AE86, and even those are hard to find some parts for, so I really wouldn't use it as anything but a beater, drive it into the ground and when it finally breaks just call the junkyard.

Corollas are known to be the most reliable cars on the planet. I say fix it and give it to your great grand children.

i know that and corolla is car from a muscle car or classic. if it did fall into one of those categories then yes i could see the point. like said, rock it as a beater no need to go all flashy with it

lol, that car'd get creamed

It'd prolly even take about 500 to get to a beater that'd actually run, lol. Idk, I figured it'd just be a fun car to mess around with and try some stuff out on.

I've debated doing the swap but it'd prolly put me down a grand or two

Now that'd be sick, lol.
I take it nobody'd pimp an 87 corolla, lol.
I hear everybody on the why do anything with it it's old thing but I figured it'd just be a fun project car. Just something to try everything I may have wanted to try before but couldn't. I think if anything I'll clean it up, fix the engine in there now, and shoot some new paint.

I just dont think the words 'pimp' and corolla go together in a sentence.
Use it as a beater, should treat you good.

How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
Pimping an 86 Corolla will get you mad ho3s dawg.
Seriously, it's a freaking 86 Corolla.. leave it alone and don't waste your time. Make it run good and beat the @!#$ out of it.

Make a Auto x car out of it. Those cars are slow as @!#$ but handle really @!#$in well.
mud tires, big snorkel, jack it up, go muddin.... haha
drain the oil out, start the car, put a brick on the gas pedal, walk away and return an hour later. if it's still running, it must be worth fixing. i did that to a friends escort except we didn't drain the oil. still threw a @!#$ rod through the block though lol.
but seriously, an 87 corolla is not a very good looking car by any stretch of the imagination and theres not much you can do to it to change that fact. however them cars do have really good reliable engines in them so maybe hop the engine up and make it a sleeper, or theres always the brick lol
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......

I thought about that too but I prolly won't have the cash and I live in montana where auto-x = none

Hey now, lol. We'll at least fix the engine up.

Corolla is a pimp car. An 87 is still RWD and could be a fun car. It would just take a few grand and would be worth putting the money into it.

are you sure about that? I think that a 4-door of that vintage is front-wheel-drive
Hmm could have swore I was right. So I googled it. Apparently in 87 is FWD. Dunno what I was thinking. In that case I agree with previous comments. Throw it in the garbage.

Only the GT-S 86 and below or SR5's are RWD no ?

I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
if you don't have the money to do anything really cool to it.... then why? put that money away for something better. either a different, better car, or a house, or college, or whatever. IMO, a FWD corolla is entirely worthless... There are ugly cool cars, like the Omni GLHS, the 86-87 hatchback Z24's, the Delorean... the 87 corolla 4 door is just plain ugly, has virtually zero market, and even if it did, you don't seem to have the money to do anything "pimp" to it anyway. So why bother doing a quarter-assed build on a piece of crap car?

ship it out here to Djibouti, they get carloads of them, it is their version of a new car. either that or ram it into a tree and claim the insurance. or gut it and use it as a grill for tailgating.
