Simple question: Which of the three new ponycars would you rather own? The Mustang, the Challenger, or the Camaro?
However, here's the hard part. You gotta justify the choice with more than just a "I likes it cuz mah daddy drove a Ford..." or some stupid thing. GIVE ME A GOOD REASON DAMMIT!
My own personal pick? The Challenger.
I mean... just look at it.
Not a bad angle on the car.
Also, I hate to say it but most new cars are hideous to look at. I'll admit that they're vastly more practical, efficient, powerful and solidly made than any older car I could think of, but they're also
U-G-H-L-Y as hell (The added H is for UGH and HOLY SH*T THAT CAR IS UGLY!!!). And as much as I admire the excellent quality of new cars I just can't help but feel like I left my balls back in my dresser drawer whenever I drive one. You all may find this funny, but the main reason I bought a Sunfire wasn't because I liked GM but because it was the only dirt cheap affordable car that I could think of that was still somewhat sleek and sexy and just the slightest bit impractical with a trunk instead of a hatch. I mean, if you can't drive something cool, why aren't you just riding the bus instead? I'll never drive a Prius. I don't care if gas went up to 25$ a gallon. I just couldn't do it.
Yes, the Challenger is probably built by monkeys and made out of old recycled tin cans. Yes, the engine will blow a gasket before the new car smell fades. Yes, it will rattle like a paint shaker. Yes, the transmission will have problem(s) plural. Yes, the electrical system will fail miserably the minute there's a drizzle. Yes, the materials they used to make the interior were recycled from a Reliant K. Yes, it will be impractical in every way: Expensive on gas. Expensive in insurance. Hard to park. Small trunk. Yes, I will hate this car some days. Yes, Chrysler will probably fold and void the warranty on the stupid thing ten seconds after I sign the loan papers...
BUT LOOK AT IT!
If this car was a woman you'd all be masturbating right now. Admit it.
The Mustang will be much sturdier by about 10 million percent, and the Camaro will undoubtedly be the best performing of the tree. I love them all to be honest, but the Challenger just looks so much more badass.
If I bought a Camaro, for example, I know I wouldn't be dissapointed. Except that one day I'd be driving that Camaro and see a Challenger R/T coming the other way and I'd think: GOD DAMN! WHY DIDN'T I BUY THE DODGE??????
So yes... I want a Challenger. I want one. I want one. I want one. I will have one.
I asked a salesman what they wanted for a loaded Challenger. His responce was $70,000CDN. It's just too much money for the fun one.
If the Camaro runs the same, I'd rather pick up a Z06.
At this point, as much as it pains me to say it, I'd take a Mustang with boltons.
The v6 Challenger will surely be a bargain, but I just don't want the girl version of the car.
Price aside,
Challenger.
We'll see what the Camaro can do when it is released to the public for molestation.
Because i have not driven the new camaro or the challenger i would say the mustang
Mustang for me. You can get GT's around here for under 20k.
camaro, don't even care if its a v6. my first car was an 89 camaro rs with a 305 V8. i've regretted selling that car for 7 years now. the new camaro with the v6 makes more power and is faster that my little 305 ever was.
GO PATS!!!

$70k? You got a deal. Stealerships here are asking $90-100K for a loaded Challenger. I don't get it.

Watching you parade around my bedroom in a thong was a little like watching sea lions mate.
The challeger is a dodge product and we all know the quitily that they build.
I have noticed that the mustang has never been quite able to match the camaro in performance, plus in a GM guy. Sooooo, i'll take the camaro.

If I'm buying it: None of the above.
If you're buying it: 2 of each.
camaro, hands down. those challengers look sweeeet fa sho, but, hey, we're chevy guys, right? and i'm also gonna go with tinkle on this: stock-vs-stock camaro takes a mustang anyday. i actually had a buddy that sold his mustang just because i beat him 3 straight with his stang against my camaro. ah, what a glorious day that was....
I already drive a Challenger. Well, the luxury sedan version. All the cons you listed are typical "it's a Dodge" remarks which are all untrue with the new LX platform. I've got almost 35k on the odo and no creaks or anything in the cabin. Trunk is very large. Easy to park with the park assist features, etc.
I like the Challenger I was just tired of having a 2-door.
The only complaint I have about the new LX-bodys/Challenger, is that they just don't handle a hit very well (I'm a little biased since I work on them). But in comparison to GMs, I'd take a Dodge all day long (for the exception of the re-badged imports like the G8 and Acadia and such.) But I'm officially converted to a Dodge guy now, after working on enough GMs I just think they suck in perceived quality and satisfaction. Plus they are just flat out easier to work on.
As stated above, the Challenger doesn't have a single bad angle on it, and the base model looks tons better than the Mustang base model, I'd gladly roll around in a base Challenger with the 3.5 and upgraded wheels. I just think the Challenger is something fresh, classy, and impressive, and if I wasn't a family man now, I'd pick one up immediately. Some may say that it's bland looking in comparison, but I like the bold simple styling and sleek body lines as opposed to the sharp lines and big vents that usually scream for attention in other cars. Mustangs can be badass as well, there really isn't too much to talk crap about in their higher-end models, I just don't like how common they are.
The Camaro looks good, especially from the side, and it looks like alot of the concept interior cues made a decent transition to the production version. My main gripe with it is that it just doesn't have that same originality factory as the others; it really just looks like a resized Corvette to me, which isn't exactly a bad thing, just kinda more of the same from GM. I still think it will be a great competitor, if not the performance dominator of the 3, and I'm looking forward to seeing it on the streets.
SRT8 vs SS vs Shelby, money not an object, really tough call but I'd take the Shelby, I think.
But in a base model lineup, I'd take the Challenger.

Agreed.
Besides, the base model Challenger makes 250hp, which is more than every single fast car from 1975 to 1988 with the sole exception of the 1987 Buick GNX. Heck, even the base SE car is gonna cut at least a 14.9 quarter which is no slowpoke. In fact, that time is as fast as it's grandpa the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 383 (A real one I mean, with it's original bias ply tires. Not a "restored" one with radials and uprated cams/valves/ect that probably kicks about 150hp more than it ever did stock). I think what's making people cringe is the fact that it's a V6. If it was a 3.5 liter V8 nobody would be saying boo. Because, last time I checked, the 1972-74 Challenger Rallyes with their 245hp V8's were considered musclecars too.
Man, I can't wait to get one.
You say you worked on Dodge's a lot. Do they still have really strong rustproof bodies like they did in the 80's? One of the reasons they were so popular as cop cars even when there were more modern and powerful alternatives from Ford and Chevy was that even without being oiled up the kazoo they didn't really rust. In 2003 my dad gave me his 1987 LeBaron and not a spot of cancer on the thing even though it was 16 years old at the time. People make fun of the K cars but they were pretty impressive buildwise. Engines were sorta garbage, but everything else lasted forever.
IT would be between the Challenger or the Camaro for me. I never really did like the styling of the newer mustangs. The Base camaro is supposed to have a ~300 hp v6 engine and I think a 6 speed manual, may be wrong on that though. Thats going to haul ass! Imagine putting a turbo on that!
my main set off is the fake cf on the hood of the challenger... i mean come on your paying that much for a car and they put a cf sticker on your hood? the interrior is ok but looks kind of like a toy.
the mustang has been out for a while and there are so many models i got tires of them.
Camaro waited too long to release and is now behind on the market.
id rather have none but the camaro has my only vote so far.
Personally I've always loved Camaros, my first real dream car was a 67 Camaro SS and that still hasn't changed. Due to the fact that the 67's are getting more and more scarce I may have to settle for the new one by the time it comes out.
The Camaro. The other two won't be able to make it off the lot under their own power.

As far as the new
Metro-Muscle cars go....
Depending on how it prefroms a new camaro SS, becuase I am a chevy guy but love to the Ford people as I would drive any american muscle car F*ck getting is sissy agruments there all great.

" Aint nothin' but a Peanut!"
Camaro, it out performs the other 2. PBeing a driving purest that makes the choice simple.
IRS > Live Axle.
PERIOD.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
If money was no object, I would def. go with the Challenger. I just don't like the Camaro that much.
Why do they call him Big Black?
Seriously though, I love the car, but those wheels look wrong. I hope they make retro looking ones for it. Would love a Cragar S/S or a Centerline Autodrag or even an old timey slotted rims. Big wide tires at the back, lil' skinny ones at the front, just like the good old days.
The Camaro will be a much more engaging drive and even the V6 version does 60 in six seconds.
Challenger is nice but its not worth the 40K+ price tag that the Mustang is def under by car and the Camaro will be as well, not to mention its a Mopar product and reliability is a issue
Camaro will have the LSx which is gods motor and the Mustang 5.4s have proven fairly stout in the current gen
