DAMMIT! Base Camaro priced at 26,995$ in Canada.

Why does GM always price cars too high? Guess I'll be buying a Mustang (24,799$) or Challenger (24,995$) instead.

Yeah, it's only 2 grand extra, but when you've included taxes and shipping and options and rebates and interest rates on loans and dealer markup for new models you could be looking at a 5 or 6 thousand dollar difference.

We'll see.

Hey, you'll find no argument from me. I'd rather they had put the 5.3L V8 in the base car. Makes the same 300hp as the V6 and sounds cooler. However, I just wanna buy the car, and I don't have 34,000$ that the base SS will cost.

Personally, I think the best value for my money would be the Challenger V6, because I know that the dealership is going to do everything up to including hookers and a hotel room in Vegas with the deal. So I'll get a hefty rebate on the sucker. Also, since it's a Dodge the engine will probably explode within 5 or 6 years anyway. Giving me a perfect excuse to buy a modded 440 V8 and 4 speed manual combo and replace the six.

No offense, but the v6 Camaro is MUCH MORE OF A CAR for the difference in money. Over both the Challenger & Mustang. The suspension is light years ahead, the motor is more refined, and the interior dances around Both the plastic crap from the other 2.

AND a v6 is perfectly fine. WHY does it not belong in there ? DO none of you remember those great old first generation of stangs coming with 289 straight 6's ? Ill scoop on up any day !

There's gotta be a reason for going with the 3.6 over the 5.3L. Both being 300hp I'd almost think that the MPG would be about the same because 300hp is going to take the same amount of fuel overall. Granted the V6 probably makes it's 300hp more at the top end thus making less power and using less fuel at the lower rpms of cruise. But at the same time the 5.3L typically does have the DOD to help with MPG.... so it's hard telling. But my guess is that it has to be an issue with both MPG per government mandates, and probably also with insurance. Having the V6 likely makes it cheaper to insure, thus more attractive to some buyers in that aspect.

THe only 5.3 still in service with GM is the 5300 Vortec no...? WHY would you put that lug of a motor into this vehicle ? THe 3.6 is a SUPERB motor.

The V6 is there for insurance purposes. It's more expensive to have a V8 in a two door car, especially a Camaro. Also they can raid the CTS parts bin for the V6 car so everything's all crash tested and smog certified. Unlike the 5.3 LS4 (The most sophisticated 5.3) which has never been built in manual configuration in a RWD car.

Personally, I'm not a V6 engiracist and as long as it puts out more than 200hp I'm good with it.

The interior of the Camaro will probably be either equal to the 2010 Mustang or a bit worse. People who've seen both seem to think the new Mustang looks really really nice.

Oh, and the Mustang in the 60's never came with a 289 L6. It did however have a teeny tiny 260 V8 and a 250 L6. Whereas the confusion.

What makes me laugh about the new Camaro V6 haters is calling the six a "wussy" choice when in actuality it makes more HP than any Camaro ever made in the 60's, 70's and 80's except for a handful of COPOs and special top of the line big block cars. In the 90's no Camaro even came close to the same power until 1996-97 with the SLP cars. So I don't know what they're on about, but hey... I like the sound of a V8 too yanno?

Bah, just a brain fart. I meant the 200/250******* I don't know how i gaffed that one...

I have seen the new Mustangs @ Car shows here in TOronto. NOT impressed, THe Camaro interior from the pictures at least.. still looks better.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the modern V6s. They have great sound to them, and are fairly fuel efficient for what they are.

And as far as power, let's look at the Charger. The base engine back in the day was the 318, which by today's net horsepower standards would be only about 150-170 hp. The 2.7l V6 that you can get in the base Charger/Magnum/300 is 200 hp. So you don't NEED a V8 for a daily driver. If you want to track race it, then sure, it's worth it. But for a DD, there V6s are perfect.

I myself plan on getting a Charger this summer (I need the 4 doors), and will most likely get the 2.7L, or maybe the 3.5L HO.... As fun as a Hemi would be, there's no need for it on a daily driver. My right foot would be happy, but my wallet wouldn't. Extra in gas, insurance.. More likely to want to speed....

So, to the O.P.... Get what will make you happy. If you're happy with the Challenger or Mustang, do it. FIve to 6 grand to go with the Camaro (spread out over the term of financing) isn't a huge difference, if it'll make you a lot happier.

I had a charger for a rental for a week. The 2.7L is not enough engine for that car... get the 3.5L you won't regret it.

The Charger alos has the most bland and unexciting/cheap interior ever :p.

I currently drive a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder.... There's not much that can be more bland, cheap, etc for the interior. LOL

Thanks for the input. It's for a DD, with no need for a lot of power. I'll be test driving them both, of course, and will see if I can stand the smaller engine. I'm guessing I'll end up agreeing with you, though, as the Charger is quite a heavy car.

MOre of a figure of speech.

BUT I will stand by my previous statement on it's lackluster interior. THEY made some decent improvements on the 2008 model though. (Vents look better)

Yeah, if it's anything like the rental Magnum I had, it IS lackluster. But I've never been one for needing a fancy interior. As long as my DD gets me where I need to go, and is at least somewhat fun to drive, that's good enough for me.

I'm more frustrated by GM's insistence on pricing things completely wrong in Canada.

Just look at a fully optioned GMC Canyon SLE V8 Crew Cab. It's 46,900$ in Canada. While a Toyota Tacoma TRD Crew Cab with every option is 37,800$

Ummm... see the problem here?

There's no reason AT ALL why a base Camaro shouldn't be priced below 20k in the US and 22k in Canada. GM could then get rid of the 2 door Cobalt Sport and SS and sell the Camaro as a sports car equivalent replacement. They'd be saving money and making a whole lotta friends.

If you can get a V6 with 300 HP, shouldn't the V8 be at least 350-400 HP? Why not use the base Corvette engine (Aren't those a 400 HP engine?). It won't trump the Vette because of the differences in design, so it still fits neatly in the GM sports car lineup.

I hate to nitpick a car that actually got thought out and designed properly, but it just makes sense to me.

base corvette engine i thought was 430 hp.

i still wish that they made a z28...of course, if they made it with the zo6 7.0 liter, and supercharged it...my god...

I hope to have a 5 speed manual v6 Camaro parked right beside my v6 5 speed auto Mustang, one day. Maybe after the Camaro cycles through the 2nd or 3rd year of production (if that fails then maybe the Genesis Coupe). I like the Camaro and as something that wouldn't be driven on a regular basis (like my Mustang) a 300 horsepower v6 Camaro would be suitable to me. Hell 300 horses would be more power than any car I ever owned.

Maybe one day I'll "man up" and get a v8 powered car.
