The 1976 Chevrolet Nova SS had a 160hp 350. The 1988 Monte-Carlo SS had a 180hp 305. The 1990 454SS truck had a 235hp 454 V8 which sounds okay until you realized that it was slower than that year's Cavalier Z24 and gave you 10mpg for your troubles.
Even classic cars were not that fast. A 1964 Malibu SS could be had with a 283 V8 that made like 185 BRUT horspower which means it was pulling maybe 120 net hp tops. The 1963 Nova SS was even worse with it's straight 6 cylinder that put out 120 brut hp, which was maybe 90 net hp. Even the venerable 1969 Camaro SS350 only came with a 300 brut HP V8 that made 260 net hp or so.
The SS badge started to be a little faster around 1994 with the Impala SS, which had a 275hp V8 in the big boat.
But for the Super Sport bage being a hallowed name that ONLY means extremely fast cars? Never has been, never will be.

The styling just isnt their nor does it have anything special about it. Its almost gms way of trying to sell more vehicles because they have a badge
