My Eclipse was built in Illinois, but it's still a Japanese car, oh well.

your an asshat. hate Honda all you want, but please don't get testy with people and spit out ignorant incorrect info and then call other people ignorant. the Saab 9-3 is a General Motors "shared" platform. yes they were invovled in it. that's where GM could learn a lesson from Ford. Ford owns their secondary companies and filters cash to them, but mostly leaves them alone to build what they want. occasionally they will share a platform, but mostly they don't. only recently has Ford and Mazda intergated a bit more closer. but Volvo, and Aston Martin don't share as much. and the only Ford platforms shared with Jaguar is the Lincoln LS and Jag S-type. and the new euro version of the U.S.'s departed Contour SVT is the Jag X-type.

but GM dabbles in all of their companies and divisions. don't kid your self. do you seriously think it's a coinceidce that Saab makes an SUV that looks like the Chevy Trailblazer? or Suzuki makes a Swift that looks like an Aveo?

When I said GM was not involved in the car, I mean they weren't at the drawing tables coming up with ideas for the car. Saab used the platform and only the engine block. Secondly, the SUv is only going to be sold in the states if I remember reading correctly.
Plus, the X-type is not based on the Contour, it's based on the Mondeo platform which isn't the Contour.
I was not denying GM doesn't "dabble" in other companies, I know they do and they should stop or they'll keep going under. I was stating "GM" engineers weren't designing the 9-3. You should be able to recognize that considering GM doesn't have a car with equal std equipment, engine power and suspension setup for under $28K.

and the electronics...all AC/Delco, and the brakes, and the suspension lifted from the Opel Germany's Epsilon cars. really the only thing Saab on the 9-3 IS the design.

eatsvtec wrote:Plus, the X-type is not based on the Contour, it's based on the Mondeo platform which isn't the Contour.

and actually the Contour IS a Mondeo. Same car, true story.
See Here
And Here
And Especially here!!! Where it clearly explains....."1995-2000 Ford Contour: Highlights. Ford's latest rival to the Honda Accord and other compact and mid-size sedans replaced the Tempo. Mercury offers a similar 4-door sedan, called Mystique. Both were based on the European Ford Mondeo."....

and although the Jag shares it's underpinnings with the new 2nd gen Europe only market Mondeo they mechanically have more in common with the previous generation U.S. spec Contour SVT.

research thoroughly what automotive facts you don't have complete knowledge in before hitting post to cement your own ignorance.

on a lighter note it's a good car and you should go for it. why not? sounds like your REALLY in to it. and everyone should own a car they truly want. and if it's exatly what you want and you can get an acceptable deal for it, then do it.

Well if I can get rid of my 03 Passat, which I should be able to, I will be getting the 93. We need 2 cars over. I was looking at either an 06 3 series or the 93. After you get all the options on the bimmer that come stock on the 93 and then the extra packages, you pay about $4-5K more for the bimmer. The only plus side to the new bimmer, is it's base engine is 220some hp. I don't remember the exact number but it's a lot higher than the previous years base numbers. Anyway, I can spend the extra $4K on the 93 and push atleast 300hp, but I doubt my wife will go for that any time soon. lol (She's the bread winner of the family so I kinda gotta listen to her. )

now a BMW? well that's a different story. both are good choices. with the 93 you avoid the overcharging of a new car and still great a great car.....and although it is a BMW and they are known for their reliability '93 may be a tad to old to trust. my best friend picked up a 1997 M3 sedan for the same cost as a loaded Cavalier $17,000. the car is in pristine condition. and a 4-door M3 at a cavalier price is not a bad deal at all. i'd look at some newer...older BMW's before getting a 12 year old one. otherwise just swallow the huge monthly payments and get the new one.

Honestly, I like the look of the 93 Aero a lot more than the 3 series. Don't get me wrong, I like the 3 series, I just like the look of the 93 Aero a lot more. Plus you get a lot more options for less. And I'd like to stick with turboed cars because they are a lot easier to upgrade. A simple chip nets 30-40hp. Either car is going to be a nice monthly payment at atleast $500-550 a month. Also, don't forget I'm overseas, it's not very easy buying a used car. There is so much paper work and red tape to get a loan it's not worth it unless you pay for it all up front. Doesn't matter what we get, we'll have it paid off in less than 4 years, when we leave here.

i think by 93 he means Saab 9-3 not a 1993 BMW.

WOW!!! Didn't mean to start such a war... All I meant was that the Saab is not 100% European, and that it wouldn't be my first choice in that market.. However, I never once denied that the 9-3 is a nice car. In fact, I considered one for a while (when I was supposed to get a job that pays more than I make now and could have afforded it). When and if you do get it, I surely hope you'll share pics.

Don't get the wheezy I-4 Turbo. Good god those things are slow and does not match the looks of the car (sport sedan).
Wait on the 2.8L V6 Turbo with 250HP.

BTW the Saab is designed and engineered by GM and built in Trollhatten, Sweeden. But who cares because it's an excellent product.
