Yes.. Both Cobalts and Ion's have their battery in the trunk. Most people still don't know this though..

No probs with mine at all yet.. Already have 1,500 Km's on it.
My cavalier broke down at 120 km's lol. I agree, I should have gotten the redline, but instead, I bought a house.. Much more fun for sure.

I looked at one of those a while ago. I really liked the car. hard to find the one I wanted though, one with leather and sunroof, and so on.
battery in trunk = less heat, less moisture, no corrosion, easy access for amps
