Weird HP Tuners Question.. not sure
Tuesday, June 06, 2006 1:40 PM
ok im looking into getting HP Tuners before i go nitrous... my question is, meaning i dont have a instrument cluster that has a tach, and my vehicle is a 99 so i cant just swap cause my mileage is in the cluster itself, is there away to take the cluster from a 98-99 z24 put it in and program the mileage on from my old cluster onto the swapped one?

just wandering cause i know they can do it with tech 2 tool at a dealer but that cost a pretty penny.

and doesnt hpt do everything a tech 2 can and more?

You can not program the milage with a tech 2,.... The milage is also stroed in the BCM, not the cluster....

DO NOT quote me on this, get shifted in here, but I am ALMOST 99.9% sure if you swap clusters, the milage will stay the same. Im almost positive, but I myself havent done it, so I am not goign to come in and say for sure, but there isnt any reason why it wouldnt.

The mileage only stays the same in the 2000+'s. HPT cannot program the cluster or BCM in any year, so your pretty much SOL.

just swap clusters and make note of the milage when you swap them

or have the dealer send the other cluster out to get the milage matched

Yep..... 95-99 (even digital 98/99's) are stored in the clusters...... only way to change the milage is to have GM send it out (on the digital)..... on 95-98's you can change the odometer readings....... but you have to take the cluster apart and do it by hand......

What you need to do is call a scrap yard or just check on ebay for a cluster with roughly the same milage or if you even want to get one with less or even no milage on it.
