Painted Mirrors And Handles

Hey, I was just wondering roughly how much it cost any of you that have had your mirrors/door handles painted? I would really like to get mine done one of these days. Thanks in advance.

i was quoted around $100 from one shop, and about $250 from another. the best way to find out how much it's going to cost you is to go to body shops in your area and ask them directly. get a quote, find out how good of work they do and do some reasearch.

I was quoted $100 CDN to have my mirrors painted body colour and my wiper arms resprayed gloss black, and a friend of mine was quoted $100 for mirrors and handles so I would just say to shop around and see what kind of deal you can find.

If you're planning on adding a kit or something like that, you could always wait and have the mirrors/handles painted then for next to nothing.

some pics of my car

^ i had just my mirrors painted on my car. you can see that i also painted the piece that attaches to the car, although some just paint the mirror itself, similar to how the newer cavaliers came from the factory

Has anyone had any probles with taking the handles off?? I went to the place that painted my spoiler, and they said that they probably wouldnt be able to paint them gloss-smooth (wtf?), and that when drilling out the rivets they sometimes ruin the handle. Should I just try somewhere else, or is there some truth to this??? Also, looking at my car, what would look best?? Handles and mirrors painted white, or just handles, or just mirrors, or neither?

I do remember reading a thread on the Org where it was stated that the mirrors you can easily remove and paint but the handles you have to paint with them on the car. I'm planning on doing that at some point.

Blown.

I did my mirrors with a spray can and they look awesome, I got some painting skills though, hell if anyone wants there mirrors done I'd do it for cost of shipping to and from, cost of paint, and like $15 for my labor ( ie sand, mask, paint, clear ) I can also do dashboards and interior pieces too, I will have to get some pics of my work on here.

My thoughts on this topic...

It's a personal preference thing, but I prefer when only the outside mirror housing is painted, leaving the triangle where it mounts black to match up with the trim around the window.

If you're painting your mirrors, for God's sake, don't paint them a different colour than the rest of the car!!! These are not accent pieces. Painting them a different colour looks completely disjointed and breaks the flow of all the lines on the car.

Removing the handles does often ruin them, if they spin the rivets in the plastic. If you're going to paint your existing handles, just have them painted on the car. Any good painter should be able to mask them. There's been issues though with getting them perfectly smooth.

The alternative, and what was done on my car, is to replace the handles with a set that are made to be painted. In 2002 (and perhaps other years) the handles on the LS Sport/Z24 came painted from the factory. They use a different, smooth, set of handles and cost around $50 each or so from any GM dealer.
