Well, my front end was getting closer and closer to the ground as the small aluminium brackets that held the front in place bent further and further out.
These are the original brackets that came with the front
I'm not sure if the lack of crush guard is part of the problem, but they just didn't hold up very well. I got me a 2"x1/4" strip of aluminium and made a strip for the top of the bumper

and 2 brackets that mount to the on top of the radiator support.
I'll be trimming them just behind the bolt holes but it was only 19 degrees outside today so I quit. The prop rod won't lay in place correctly until they're cut, but I should put on the redline struts anyway.
Just thought I would post this as an alternative for people looking for a differnt way to support the kit since it is a fairly popular one.
A few notes: I recomend 1/8" alum. as the 1/4" is a PITA to bend
You'll need a strong vice, hammer(maul), drill, some way to cut the alum.(I used a dremel and saw-z-all) I don't recomend a dremel for 1/4" bar, mine shot sparks and caught the rug on fire then stopped working. But I have the sears extended war, so it will get replaced lol

do you need to remove the crush guard to mount the type j front?

well you do need to trim it...alot like every other aftermarket bumper.
as far as I know it just needs to be trimmed, I didn't have one on my car when I got it (doghouse and pass fender was missing since it was a salvage title)
