headlight problem- HELP!!
Sunday, December 18, 2005 8:12 AM
Ok, simple question maybe. I put a new h/l bulb in yesterday and now only the lt headlight works at full power, but the right is dim and both high beams are illuminated(though dim) when the healights are turned on. WTF happened????!!!! I have the DRL's disabled and am thinking maybe the relay is shot. Any thoughts???

03 fire. Yeah's it's an ECO.

The only thing I can think of is that I thought that the replacement lights for 03+ Fires were H11 for low beams and H9 for High beams. I drive an 04 Fire and thats the only reason I say this after looking up aftermarket replacements on eAutoworks.com. I'm guessing that since you said you put an H1 in that maybe it is just under powered and is looking low, or that it might have shorted something out.

Thats the only thing I can think of, though I think an H1 has the same wattage as the lowbeams so my only other question would be is which bulb is the H1 replacing? Lowbeams take a 55w bulb and Highbeams take a 65w.

killer, thanks, but i meant headlight, i just abbreviated with (h/l). sorry, it's habit. No i put an H11 in the lt and then the rt side, but i couldn't get the rt side to fit in the housing right. and of course the friggin bulb broke off the connector and is now lodged in the housing. i put on of my old bulbs in, and that's when everything but the left lowbeam went dim on me. if i flip on the highbeams nothing changes, but once i take them off, the highbeam indicator stays on until i turn off the headlights.

i had the same problem with my headlights the problem that i found was one of two things either 1. the headlights are put in incorrectly you have to jiggle them around until you get like a "rainbow" of light from it like a beam then two archs coming from it. 2. the bulb is slightly burnt out and the beam will only work on the dim function and highbeam it will not do your drl's. finally the last option you have is to change the drl relay if none of the aforementioned solutions work out...later

thanks roy, the drl's are disconnected, but what is throwing me off is the highbeams being on though real dim when the low beams are on. that's what has me thinking it is either a relay or fuse issue. i'm gonna have to wait until late tonight as the wife is driving the car and she won't get home till late tonight.
