To debadge or rebadge the Toyota 2.4Z

Click here for info on what a Toyota Cavalier is please:

http://www.j-body.org/faq//79/

My car is currently badged as a Chevrolet and very soon i am going to remove the badges but am unsure whether to go for a clean look or rebadge it as a Toyota?

The only things i'm worried about is when i attend American Cars shows people may not 'judge' my car in any show and shines as they may think its a Toyo and not American (but i am thinking of making a poster with the above 'What is a Toyo Cavy" info on it for Jap and American car shows)

The car as it is now badged:

Chevy Bowtie on Bonnet where Toyota badge original was and this is where it'll be put back

Bowtie put where no badge is on a Toyota Cavalier so it'll be removed but i plan on keeping the 2.4Z and may get a Chrome Toyo badge for the opposite side of the boot/trunk lid.

Ta

Ian

Also ion other news i'm planning to save money over the next few weeks so i can get my Bronze 17's, if i can stay off the beer in the new year i'll be all rimmed up in approx 5/6 weeks!!!!

Hi Ian,

I came across your post quite by accident, but now I'm curious about the origins of your Cavy...

I didn't know any American J-Body's made it over the pond. I thought you folks all had Vauxhall or Opel Cavaliers. Does GM in the UK work like GM in Germany, where you can go to the local Opel store and purchase US cars? Or are the US cars all third party imports? (Bear with me, it's been a few years since I was over in Europe... )

Did you purchase your car in the UK? Or was it imported from Japan? Either way, how did the Chevrolet badging get on it? Did those wheels come on the car?

I saw this line in the FAQ's "In short, a Toyota Cavalier is a merely right hand drive Chevrolet Cavalier. " But does that mean ALL RHD Cavs are Toyotas? What about other RHD markets (Asia, MIddle East, etc.)?

I think I've blasted enough questions at you for now. Sorry, these things just happen with me... If you would humor me with answers, that would be great...

If it were up to me, I would leave the Chevy badges on it. It's raised about a dozen questions with me alone... I would think it would be a real discussion piece over in the UK!

basicall y i bought the car from a guy who imported it from Japan in 2001.

you can not get any Chevrolets/Pontiacs etc from GM dealers here in the UK but i believe you can in mainland Europe

Chevrolet/Toyota Cavaliers where only sold in Japan and where RHD and then from there they were mainly shipped to New Zealand as they also drive on the Left.

This is 1 of 2/3 Toyo Cavaliers in the Uk.

Right now back on topic!

id pull the bow ties off

this is a idea for shows i had thought about doing

take the emblems , and stick them to magnets , the thin style (like used for refrigerators ) , then cut the magnets to fit the emblems , and stick them on for show , take them off when done

down side is idiots with sticky fingers , or friends playing jokes

Badge it what it is...just my opinion.

If you like the "no-badge" look, then you don't have to worry.

Or do the magnet idea...I like that.

first of all, i think the magnet idea is good. if you don't do that, i'd say badge it what it is.

now i must go a little off topic. i know that its a toyota cavalier and that makes it special. i was wondering how you do at shows considering that other than being a toyota, its a stock cavalier.

GO PATS!!!

^^^

I have yet to properly compete in a comp as of yet. i've been to some and the standard of cars in my local area isn't the best and all the people who have seen my car and the PS of it with 17's like it a lot and say that it should do well as its different.

wow that was random. yeah blus had his trd for sale for a whiiiiiile now.. whats the asking price? saw you last at a little pos show in medina ohio slam jam last summer. car looks great.

as far as the topic goes i would toyota badge it. as long as its rhd who cares if it vinned as a toyota or chevy?

there are plenty of fake cars out there or conversioned cars and no one cares most shelby cobras are fake and old guys are car people have no prob with that. there are fake 4ames dean porsches all over. what matters is detail and spec. seen a few cosworth focuses that started out as usdm screw it just do the swapped
