Dude, maaco sucks ballz. On my old daytona the previous owner had it painted there and they didn't sand anything on the car. Basically they washed the car and shot 2 coats of single stage paint on the car. The weatherstripping had paint on it, and part of the front windshield also had paint on it. Not to mention the amount of runs the car had on it. From a distance it looked really nice until it started peeling, which only took 5 months after the paint. I wouldn't do it, take it to a reputable body shop and have them do it right with sanding, primer, base, and clear. Yea it's more money but it's worth it, believe me I have tried going the cheep way and I won't do it again.

I can't say, it really depends on the body shop and/or who you know as well as the color that you want them to shoot. Are you talking the whole car?

ya know I'm not sure. I need my body kit painted, I'm thinking about getting different fenders and a hood, I'm shaving the door handles and also getting scathes removed. right now my car is silver I'm sure tho if I wan't to get it painted a different color. How much did yours cost?

With Maaco, you get what you pay for like any other place. I know my uncle had them sand, prime, and paint his blazer, and the paint lasted until he got rid of the truck about 8 years later, still looked new. Of course if you get the "Ambasator paint job" for $300, it's going to suck, but they have some pretty high end paint jobs. Just my .02

I'm going to do one of two things. If I did go to maaco I was planning on getting the Signature "Base coat , Clear coat, Urethane don't know how mcuh it would be. Or my uncle has his eye on my 1994 Topaz (he needs a good starter car for his daughter) but I was thinking of working something out and have him paint it.

Well I got my wings west avenger front bumper done at St. Joe Auto Body in st. joseph michigan and it cost me $340 with a lifetime warranty on the paint. The warranty covers fade, runs, smears, orange peel, etc, etc. Basically if I don't take a hammer to it they will reshoot it. I called him today about my wings west front and told him about 2 damn near microscopic pin holes in the paint and he said to drop the bumper off when I bring my Bomex sides in Wednesday and they will strip down the bumper and respray it when they do the sides. Nice thing is he's going to do the sides for $200 with the same warranty.

Although, you have to figure in the cost of fitting if you are going to have them do that. For me they wanted $450 to fit and spray it, but I got everything fitted and just had them spray it. I'll post pics of my bumper and sides when they get them done.

Hope this helps,

I would look for a small independent body shop for a lower price. Get references.

One of my buddies worked at a small local body shop. I have seen some of their low price work look good for years.

A guy I used to work with took his Buick Century to one of those "quickie paint job" places. Looked GOOD at first. After about a year, the paint started to flake off around anything that was hard to sand around, like the antenna, mouldings, keyholes, etc.

If you really NEED to go cheap and go the Maaco, Strip, primer and prep the entire car YOURSELF. THen take it in. I mean at least it will be preped right and if all they do is paint and clear it, it mihgt not turn out so bad.

Thats what we are doing at my house. My brother has an 89 grand Am that is in desperate need for a paintjob, so we sanded the whole thing down, doing the bodywork, primering, and just taking it in and having them paint it black with a clearcoat on it.

Only use maaco if you plan on painting the tires/wheels, exhaust tip and parts of your windows the same color as the car.
