What is needed for a 00-02 headlight swap???
Wednesday, March 29, 2006 8:11 AM
I am doing a headlight conversion this weekend from a 95-99 to a 00-02. I think that I am going to be spliting wires. Can anyone tell me what other parts i need other than the headlights and corners. Also a how-to would be awesome (i saw the 00-02 to 95-99 conversion) , the one in FAQ would not work. Any help will be appreciated.

search this is brought up almost once a week.

you need the lights, corner lights, wire harness and corner bracket. the corner bracket on your fenders will need to be cut off

I was told you really don't need the brackets. Eazy on here dosn't have them and they work perfectly withouth them. You'll only be lacking one tab from not being tighened i believe. The corners connect into the headlight unit itself unlike the 95-99 which don't.

Actually there is a corner bracket for teh 00 corners.. there is 2 prongs and a clip that hold on to the headlight mount, but also there is another prong on the end of it.. There is a bracket that is bolted down for the 00 cavs.. Cuz im doing a 00 swap and making sure to get these brackets.. 3 bolts hold in this bracket.. Now u might be able to get away without the bracket.. maybe ziptie that last prong to the bumper or sumthing.. But without that secure on the end it will bounce and maybe move enough to fall out while your driving..

Here is the pic of the 00-02 Corner Lense Bracket, you can see a bolt that holds on teh fender also holds this, and also one of the bolts that hold the headlight in. Pic thanks to Kevin (OneBadZ24)

Also here are pics of the back of teh corners and how it clips into the headlight.. Now i pulled on the corner and it would move somewhat, didnt really come out but if i had a nice set of corners i wouldnt want to take chance of one just falling off..

Here is a pic of the bracket on my cav. i got them off teh cav i got all the rest of the body panels off and just painted them flat black

good, cuz i dont know which wires go to which lmao. I have to put my cavy harness back in and then work on splicing off the sunfire one i got. hoping the wire colors for the 95-99 sunfire 9007 pigtails are teh same for 00+ cavy pigtails. But if u get it done this weekend make sure u write down a brief diagram of which wires go to which

Czap, Kenwood cav has a nice diagram for the wiring. you just have to get the 9007 bulb pigtails off a 00 cavalier.
http://www.websitecopy.com/dan/images/headlight_diagram.jpg
Last night i had jeff get me pics of his 9007 pigtails so i could see the wires. Today if it stops pourin im going to go out to my car and look at the 9? sunfire harness i have and make sure wire colors match up so i can use the diagram. But just use kenwood cav's diagram i linked above. its what im using on wiring and i understand it now after seeing the pics jeff sent me. I'm trying to get this write up done quick but im lacking info and waiting on the people i have helping me to get back to me.
Czap if u have any questions you can email me or get ahold of me on AIM or MSN Messanger(info in registry) and ill help you out.
Also to answer your questions about the fenders. u can use teh 95-99 fenders u have but u have to cut off the bracket that holds ur corner turnsignals in. That bracket wont allow the corners to sit in the fender like there supposed to. So get a dremel or sumthing and cut the bracket off the fenders enough for the 00 turnsignal to go in.

Wouldn't the complete wireharness from a 00-02 cav work better instead of the sunfire? Shouldn't that just be plug and play?

No it wont work. me and jeff already tried. that was tried before teh sunfire harness. the 00+ cav harness cant plug in.. its only 2 rows of pins, and the 95-99 have 3. Also the airbag is connected through that connector on the 00 but on my 96 the airbag was on its own wires.

Where have I heard that before

No it wont work at all.. lol, the pin connectors to the main harnness are different shapes.. save yourself 3 hours and just splice !

so im making a trip to the junk yard tomorrow, and I already have the headlights and corners so I need the cav 00-02 headlight bracket and a 95-99 headlight wiring harness, thats all right? I think I'm going to wait a week or so to do this and maybe the how to will be up by then, because it seems like this is not going to be easy.

are u splicing or going ot try and plug in play? if ur splicing year dont matter as long as u get 9007 pigtails. If u going to try and plug and play with a 95-99 sunfire harness trust me.. you dont want to have to deal with it.. you'll have to unplug ur harness and then find a sunfire harness that matches teh same pin setup in teh connector.. then swap out the harness and hell getting enough room to just unplug the connector isnt that easy.. i've done it 3-4 times.. and you would think it would get easier..if i just woulda spliced i woulda had my wiring done 3 weeks ago..

I got my wiring done today. I didnt have my cam on me to get pics of wire colors but they would be diff than if u got a 00 cav harness.. But if u cut off some 9007 pigtails make sure u get the year and model of car and if u need help with what colors go where lemme know.. i have yet to test mine cuz my cavy harness isnt in the car.. the sunfire one is for now but i just cut the whole dang thing out lmao. So hopefully monday ill put my harness in to test it.
