Removing Pin Stripes
Sunday, April 09, 2006 2:59 PM
Hey I did a search but didn't come up with much. Is there an easier way to remove my pin stripes besides scraping them off inch by inch with my fingernails? I was thinking maybe heating them up a little with a heat gun & they might come off easier. Any suggestions?

use a hair dryer, it provides just the right amount of heat.

I would use a hair dryer as a heat gun gets really HOT. Then once you have them pealed off, use some goo gone to remove the residual glue. Then I would maybe hit the spots with a clay bar to get any final residue off. Then hit the area with some wax. Then you should be good to go.

Yeah, a heat gun might get it TOO hot and it will probably burn your fingers, or maybe even bubble the paint which is not good at all.

I use to detail cars for a liveing.

Step 1
Go to your local walmart or target or what ever. Buy plastic razer blade`s.

step2
use hair tryed about 6 to 8 inches away. use the plastic razer blade and lift a little corner of it and pull off as much as you can at a time.

step 3
after done use a little bit og goo be gone on a towl and whipe down where the strip use to be. then use a dry part of the towl and whipe that off.

step 4 ( final)
make sure to wash car after finished. wax if you want while you are at it lol

Thats what I used on mine, took about 10 minutes to do both sides.

On my buddies car we used a heat gun and a credit card. Took a little longer but i worked.

you can use a heat gun just keep moving just dont set at one place because then it will start heating that one spot up and it will burn your paint.

CHeapest way would be to just use your fingers. ASfter you get most of the pin striping off, take some goo gone and put it on a rag and get the excess glue off. Thats how I did mine and it looks like no pin stripes were ever on my car.

I work for a dealership, and I have to remove tons of window stickers, graphics from the sides of cars, pin stripes, business sticker applications, dealership stickers and all that kind of stuff, the best thing to use other than your fingernails, which can actually scratch your paint, is a heat gun, if you dont have a heat gun you can use a hairdryer. But, as with anything paint related, don't leave the heat source too close to the painted surface for too long and don't let the leat source sit in one place for too long, both will warp the paint. Then afterwards, use an adhesive remover to clean off the excess adhesive, then clean the area with a car soap. I use a heat gun, 3M adhesive remover, and Auto-Armor Wash-Wax Concentrate for my adhesive removing needs at the dealership.

And be wary of using anything plastic on your paint, it can scratch just as easily as anything else. I would recommend using your fingernail, it's a safer bet.
