So.. there's no real in depth explanation to it. There are the really small "specks" of something all over my glass. I wash the car and then clean it with some high-end glass cleaner and it LOOKS perfect.. even when I get in the car. It's not until I'm driving around and the sun-light hits the windsheild that I see them all over it. It's not only annoying as hell, but they reflect light quite a bit.. making the already distracting task of driving towards the sun even more distracting and dangerous.
Only thing I've thought about trying (but haven't yet) is a clay bar. I have one lying around (in a baggie.. dont worry =P) but I don't know if I could use it on glass or not.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of these tiny annoyances is greatly appreciated.

Those are rock chips man..they suck but you have to either find somone to buff ur glass or live with it..or claim glass its all ur choice..phil
I'm not doubting you.. but I am doubting that THAT many rocks have hit my windsheild.
These are very tiny specks that are all over the windsheild. If I can borrow my g/f's digital camera this weekend, I'll try to get a picture os what I'm talking about.

run a razor blade over then , if they dont scrape off
then its rock/gravel/sand pits
there rock chips (mainly sand/gravel), very small but they are. Some places do a special glass buffing, but if they do it wrong you get blurry/swirl marks. best bet is if you got full coverage is to get the whole thing written off as sand damage. or just shop autoglass stores to see if they can get you better prices.
Big Boi, I do have full coverage, but with a $500 deductable, so it wouldn't be worth it to make my insurance go up and still pay for the glass to be replaced myself. We (advance auto) have some type of contract/account with an autoglass place around here that gives us really good prices. A friend of mine that works for Advance also said he called them and they quoted him $200 for a new windsheild, installed on a 2000 cavy.
*shrug* I'll try the clay bar or razor blade thing and see what it does. Oh, what exactly causes this? (and I know it's sand, but I mean how does it happen and what-not)

due to the height of the car and the way that our aerodynamics of our car is set, were pretty much S.o.L., heard of some type of a cover they make (kinda like the 3m clear bra) that can be put on to and removed once these "specs" start to be a problem. But ive never seen it or know were to get it installed, only heard about it.
another thing is if you claim sand damage you can get your car repainted (due to chips on the hood or bumper) along with the windsheild replaced. My old boss did this several times, which for a $500 deductable is a decent price.
you can claim sand damage and get your whole car repainted? Is that only in certain places?
pretty much if you have full coverage, and are getting the car painted the same color, your ok. not sure if it is limited to certain states.

i got those same little specs in my windshield too. but i just deal with it. i'd like a decent solution for this problem as well. i already have to change my back window(weld spatter) i realy don't want to have to change the front $$$$

Clay bar won't do anything for those spots...I've tried it.
Check your insurance first. I have 250 collison/250 comprehensive detuctble, but 0 on glass. Also comp claims don't raise your insurance rates.
Have you tried steel wool? Call me stupid, but if you get a fine enough guage ... it will clean it rather than scratch it up. Its just an option. If you are willing to try it, just read the back of the package, it will tell you which guage is used for

From what I've seen... steel wool only scratches glass. So maybe try that on a small area or scrap piece of glass 1st.

I work for a residential glass company and I can tell you first hand that no matter how fine the steel wool is, it will still eff up your glass. I use a special Makita buffer w/ a hard packed felt wheel and cerium oxide buffing compound from my work the get rid of any pitting and scratches on my cavs glass.
Stone chips, "specks" Are cause by alot of Highway use and alot of Canadian cars get hit with road salt other wise known as rock salt. Also dirt roads someones driving in front of you and there kicking up small gravel that stuff will hit your bumper, hood and window sometimes if you have a big chip in the window you can get a window shop to repair it. They repair it with a resin and a vacuum pump But if its just small clips the only thing you can do is replace it. i work in a bodyshop and i have never heard of a insurance company paying to have a window replaced because of stone chips that would fall under wear and tear and you adjuster will have and good laugh at the water cooler back at the office. when we paint a car and the taping wasn't done right or done in a rush sometimes there's over spray on the windshield and the best way to remove it is Windex and a razor just as long as there is a fluid there shouldn't be any problems. fine steel wool works as well (car windows are different from house and home windows) the only thing i use on my windows is rain X. Its a liquid wax and it fills all the holes and at 80kms / 50mph with it raining you don't even need window wipers on!

Thanks guys.. I may look into the insurance thing. I bought some rain x wax for my g/f's car to hold her over until I could replace the wiper motor.. it's still at her house, but I'll throw some on my windsheild this week sometime.

well as far as i know, here in the state of florida if you have a cracked windsheild ur insurance company "HAS" to replace ur windsheild at no cost to you and they cannot raise ir insurance rates because its marked as a road hazard. so if i was you i would call your insurance company and find out if its the same in your state. i know you said you only have small specks but if ur insurance covers it i dont see why not go that route.
