Any one know how to remove a wiper scratch from the windshield someone told me thers a compound you can buff it out with ?

thanks
The easiest and oldest trick in the book is go and buy the cheapest crap toothpaste you can find the real gritty stuff like grandmom used to have at her house when you wenr to visit. Anyway squirt some on the windshield and just buff it useing your fingers. TA DA !! Takes out the worst wiper scratches I've ever seen better then anything else.
Good luck..

It is a windsheild polish compound that can be used to remove scratches. You can purchase the polish at any AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts or any Car care retail store in the area. You will also need to had a buffer on hand to use with the polish. The main thing is that the polish will only remove surface hairline scratches and a rule of thumb is that if the scratch is deep enough for you to fit your finger nail in or is beginning to crack you need to call a professonal to have it repaired or glass replaced. I have used the polish before and it works best on Hairline scratches, which I too grabbed from the winter when sand was on my wiper blade and I was un-aware of it.
Advanced Auto Parts has a write up on how to preform the process.
Windshield Polish
^ i might have to look into it also.. i have fine scratches in my windows from dirt or debry gettin in the window seals and rolling down the window scratching them.. plus i have a wiper mark on my windshield also.. Auto Zone said they didnt have anytthing but i didnt try AAP yet.. does it come with the lil buffer pad for a drill like it shows in the pics?
Toothpaste works great guys ! Not the gel type stuff but the old timey type gritty white toothpaste. It'll cost you like a doller or two at any grocery store.

Yea if you get the kit, it should come with a buffer pad that you just use with a power drill. Im also intrigued about the toothpaste trick. Never tried it, but seems Jackalope swears by it. I wonder if he is talking about the white paste with the baking soda in it.
The kit I found online is a little pricey because it is the "Pro" kit, I'm sure AAP would carry the regular kit and if not at a cheaper price. The site also carries a "deep scratch kit" but if its deep I'd call the pros.
Glass Polishing Pro Kit
Yup the white paste type. not sure if the grit is bakeing soda but I guess it could be. Anyway my first car was a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS and it had swipe markes from the wipers and an old mechanic I worked with back in high school told me about the tooth paste trick. I thought he was full of it so I never tried it then one day he brought some in and told me to go try it cause he was tired of looking at those streaks. So I did and it actualy worked! I couldn't believe it but it was takeing those light scratch marks off that had been there for like 20 some odd years.
Try the tooth paste or not it doesn't bother me one way or the other but your all talking about how expensive these polishing kits are so heres a cheap alternative that even if it doesn't work for you 100% you've only lost a buck or two. But if it does work for you like it worked for me then just think of all the money you just saved. Seriously what do yo have to lose?

well what do we use to buff/polish the toothpaste into the window? also i have some fine scratches.. not just scuff on it so i dont think the toothpaste will fix those..
It buffed out 20 years of fine scratches on my old Dodge. All I used was a rag, my figers and a little water. I guess you could use a buffer just be careful as I don't know if it could hurt the glass. I'd say keep the speed low and keep the pad wet and it should work. But I'll just stik to my rag and work it in, sure it may take longer then a buffer but I know I won't hurt anything.
Now true for big nicks and small chipe this won't work but then neither will any polish at that point. This will get off all those little streaks that you can't just wash off.
Like I said a buck or two and if it doesn't work well hey you can always use the toothpaste right ?

just tried the tooth paste thing and it did nothing, maybe it was my toothpaste though. Do you know a brand name Jackalope? I was using Crest Whitening and it is gritty, but it didn't do a thing to the scratches.

I haven't tried it before. But go old school and use Arm & Hammer white paste w/ baking soda.
All I remember is it was the white tooth paste in a Crest tube back in the late 80's.
Now it doesn't just take them off with one pass, you do need to work it in. I used my middle and pointer fingers with the tooth paste on the glass and would wipe it off every once in a while with the rag to see where I needed to re-do it. I don't know how bad your glass is but this trick does work great for the fine wiper scratches that apear with age of the car.
I hope it works for you guys like it did for me.
