does anyone have pics of a cav thats sanded down to the metal, as i said in my post about 5 minutes ago, the paint under the side moldings was warped and chipped, so im in need of a paintjob. but anyways im gonna sand it down at home so that it will be cheaper to have painted.

When a car is painted, it is rarely stripped down to metal. If it is brought down that far, its usually done chemically.

Also, if you do it wrong, you can ruin the paint job and cause the price to go up. A lot of shops won't touch work that was started by somebody else, check before you take on the work.

If you do want to sand down the car yourself, then ask someone who is a professional for the correct grit you need and how you need to sand the car down. I've had the same problem with my side moldings and im in the process of sanding down my car so definitly DO NOT sand down the car to bare metal.

Clear coat is actually a great primer, the body shop will just rough up the clear and spray the base over that. Unless body work is done, then they will primer.
