ok, i was looking at a few cars we had in the lot today (i work for hertz) and i noticed something neat.
ok... so most of us like the shaved look... right? and if it wasnt so damned expensive, most would like to have shaved door handles...right? at least i think so... anyways... even if you dont want shaved handles, here could be a nice fix to having to shave them for the look.
there was an older malibu (like an 04 i believe) parked next to an 02 cavalier. i looked at the door handles on malibu, and said to myself...i wish the cav had those, they are flush mounted and look much better. then i started to compare the handles on both cars, when i noticed that the "handles" themselvs acctually look like the same shape and size as each other. so, i thought...well why couldnt you just take the flush "flat" handle off the malibu and put it right on a cavalier, it would look frickn amazing
then i saw that the malibu handle acctually has its own housing type thing, seperate to the door, and thought that looked kind of tacky with it all cut out etc... so im still throwing out the idea of why couldnt we just use the handle part of it, and screw it right down where the cavalier one goes, and viola-we have a flush mounted door handle... the cavalier has the indentation in the door where you reach under the handle to pull on it, so why couldnt this work...?
lets throw this around a bit, maybe could somebody post some pics up? of each door handle close up...
i know im going to try this sometime, just cuz i think it could work, but it might be ahwile.
I stop at about 17 different dealers a week. I'll take some picks of those cars if I see them, close up ones. If someone can beat me to it, go right ahead
awesome, i believe the older impala's as well as older buick regals have the exact same handles as well. (when i say older i mean like 02-04... not the brand spanking new ones, but not the old old ones either)
hell, there might even be more GM vehicles with those same handles on them. i'll keep looking
so your looking for flush door handles?
I think some one has done this using Neon rear door handles.
its possible,
lenko used dodge colt handles and pj has some too
search flush door handles and pjs thread will come up w/ pics

yup, Simon (spydarfire) did that years ago using the rear handles off a neon. it looked fantastic, like it should have came like that.
[quote=ßãggéÐÇåv98 (Ûñqùðtäߣè Øñé)]so your looking for flush door handles?
not only do i want "flush handles" i want ones with the exact same shape as the cavalier handles.
IMO, other handles dont look right... there either square or off round or some crap-and they dont really match the car-its the same principle of dont put a square spoiler on a round car, or dont put a round spolier on a square car... stuff like that, the cavalier handles have the same basic shape at the windows etc... they look right, they look like their sposta be there... but they just stick out-and IMO it looks like crap.
also... if my idea is posbile, you wouldnt hafta fabricate much if anything at all, no door cutting, nothing of that sort... just drill out the old handle, and screw the new one right in place. (that is of course if the locking rods and such are all the same...)
ok, i see what PJ did... but what im saying is... just using the inside handle part, not using the whole housing.
but yes, thats basically what i want to do. his looks really neat.
well honestly i doubt you are going to find a perfect fit without you modding your door some how. your best bet would be to do like mentioned w/ the other door handles. trying to find one that is just like a cavalier handle (same size, shape and contour) is going to be very hard
contour...like pj said, heat gun. the size and shape is basically exactly the same... idk if its a 100% match, but its close enough. if you had to at all...using a dremel to match it shouldnt be too hard.
i even looked underneath both handles today, and they are damn close to the same exact thing (where the hindge goes through anyway). im going to tryn find a used set in the junkyard on sat.
well good luck, post pics and let us know how it goes
if it ends up working as ez as you plan, you would be a god amongst the
of course we all know nothing is as easy as we hope. let us know anyway. good luck
