I'm just curious on how hard it is to replace the door latch mechanism on a 2002 Cavalier. This morning I've been running into the problem when I open my door the latch doesn't go up all the way.

try hitting it with some WD-40 or some kind of lubricant. my girls 99 has issues sometimes like that. i just hit it with WD and its good to go. i found hers "globs up"(for lack of a better term) the thicker lubricant from the factory which causes it to get sticky
OK, I do see where its got some caked up residue on it. I'll do that.

If not, a T30 removes the 3 bolts holding it in, helps to have the door panel off of course.
it's tough...removing it is easy, but taking the cables off of it are hard considering you can't really see what you're doing.

If you have to do it just be patient
its a bitch, i had to fo the same for my door poppers and the passenger side was having the same problem that you are having and its a pain to not bend the rods just becareful and remember to leave one side in so you can comapre while you are doing the other to look at the way it goes in and stuff.
