well ive contacted many companies about trying to get these made and am finally fed up with getting no responses so i have started to fabricate my own.... i really have never worked with cf so im not sure how it is going to come out. the main thing i am worried about is how to strengthen the inside of the lid.. this may be the wrong way but doing a lil research i saw that people use rope in fg sub boxes and i was wondering if i could do the same with cf. the next question ive ran into about doing this is how to make it work with the stock hinges.. should i just strip out the frame on the inside of the stock lid and mold it in with the new cf one? if i were to go that route i wouldnt need to use the rope but kind of eliminate the purpose of using rope... i plan to start making a mold within the next two weeks i know it wont be easy but what really is? hopefully i can get some good input and help on this.. dont post to h8 on it. serious replies only please.
Maybe Big Poppa can help with this topic (If he finds time and sees this).
before going thru all that....contact CFtech or someone closer to you who actually lays cf. you could just have them lay cf over the stock lid. prolly be more cost effective and save u alot of problems and wasted money!
i wouldnt use rope in this case. unless you're making a 2 piece mold which will be crazy ammounts of work. anything can be done, but the question is......is it worth it.
i have to imagine theres a few places that lay cf near you....maybe CA.
well dont forget what my aircraft is mostly made of

..... i have plenty of access to all the cf fab materials and professional's that fabricate aerospace cf and glass parts everyday living in the same dorms as i do. i dont want to lay it over the top of the trunk because it will throw off the line just those couple of mm's.
^^^well as long as you have someone who can lay it...then thats a bonus!! but as far as alignment of the trunk if you layd it over...you can shave it down a bit before you lay it down, then adjust to meet the original lines. you'd never notice one bit. i can almost guarantee it will line up better then one you make out of a mold.
if u did the mold, you would need to make the original mold....then make a reverse mold to pop out..and do that for both sides(top/bottom). i think youd be making work just for the sake of work.
thanks for the input this is the kind of help i need.. i'll go talk to structures buddy and see what he can do before i tear the lid off and put the car under a tarp for a day or 5 lol
whichever way you go, definately keep us posted. id like to see how it comes along!! good luck
anything new on the trunk or the mold? i would definately be interested in getting one from you if you did make it. post up some pics if you continued with it, or update on the progress.
I'd love to see cf trunks made for the Sunfire coupes. I know I'd love to have one.
Luis Marroquin: Your sig is a little too big. Might wanna change it before you catch a forum warning.
Shadowfire thanks for the warning and its fixed!
Geoff, keep us updated on the progress cuz i too have a fire coupe and would love a cf trunk

louis- when i do get mine done im not sure if ill want to go through the pain to lay another... and i kind of want one of a kind, but money talks. i have to get there first.
the trunk is coming in second to my redesigned rear bomex bumper ill link the post of the prototype photoshop ive got of it.
you do know you can buy a cf trunk from ne gen sunfire and swap the bezel over.......same from 95 to 05.
and ebay is loaded with genuine vis trunks
it completes my car real well because i have a vis invader cf hood and the factory black roof ties everything intogether real well
hmm... vis wouldnt even email me back and when i called they said they didnt make them.... o well who knows i may continue making it ive already got my lid pulled off maybe ill do somthing else w/it. time to hit up photoshop.

Those are for four (4) door sunfires. They're the same as a Cav.
Matt is one of the lucky few to find one of the 2dr. trunks they made. VIS also made a few sets of CF fenders for the Fires.
