i have a couple of questions about paint.
1) is it ok to primer your car yourself with just regular primer from a spray can?
2) what exactly is the difference in having a base coat and not. and is there a specific reason to having one.
thanx
1) if you willing to sand it all off to paint it yes. i wouldnt reccomend it but im sure if you really took your time to prep and everything it would be alright. i wouldnt be willing to chance it tho.
2) the point in bc/cc is to make the car shinier and last longer. if your clear starts to get crappy down the road you can just reclear it instead of repainting it. the end result of a basecoat/clearcoat IMO is much better looking

1)Hell no, you don't want to be cheap about primer
2)

Base coat determines the color of your car. Just putting clear coat on primer would give you a shiny primer color lol.
1. HEEEELLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOO. Stay away from rattle can primer on ANY exterior part...
2. base coat is your color in a base coat/clear coat scheme. Single stage is only good for painting your car just to sell it and if you don't care that the person buying your car is getting "ripped off" in a sense.
3. Please don't ask us how to paint your car... no offense but it really doesn't seem like you have enough experience to be tackling painting your car at this time
ok thanks for all the feed back.
o and the reason why i asked wasnt because i was gonna paint my car myself, i just wanted to know for personal reference bro.
The best advice I can give you is to invest in a good spray gun/compressor combo and go to a good paint store

Dunno who you were adressing with this reply, but FYI, Fallen Angel is definitely a woman. Thought you should know.
Scott A... just making sure... and Greg is right... I have no pen-is... I am a chick LOL
I've seen a lot of single stage jobs turn out really good and last for a long time. Just throwing that out there.
Never use rattle can paint/primer on a car........ unless its a can of the $15 stuff that i like to use for little spots on the car where mixing up a good primer is just a waste of time.
There is such thing as good rattle can primer, but like i said its hella expensive and only to be used on small repair areas. I'm not even going to get into high detail, ive been painting cars for years and its really something you shouldn't tackle yourself without any kind of direction or experience
o my bad fallen angel its cuz we call everybody bro even if ur a chick cuz its a better word than calling each other dog or the n word.
