Front lip crack:-(
Tuesday, October 09, 2007 2:52 AM
So I decided to drop the cavi all the way before our wonderful utah winters! my ex scraped it pretty good so I was planing on repainting it any how! but it seems that I have hit something (not sure what?) but I cracked my RK Sport front lip where the fog lights go! it wraps all the way around from like the middle of the hole to under the bumper. What would I use to fix the lip? Because it is not fiberglass im not sure what to use?

well, depends on the size and placement of the crack. id like to see pics.

Fusor 147 or 3M panel bond may work, but again, would have to see to give an opinion

thats a tough spot man.

this is what i would do personally.......drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop it from spreading. this way it doesnt have a pre-determined line to continue cracking past. then i would use some 3m panel bond in the crack. line it all up into place, and add a piece of steel or similar from behind and lay it across the crack and panel bond that on also. this way it will have stregth up the crack, and across. after you have that all setup, clamp it and leave it for 24 hours.

panel bond has a very very long working time, so you dont have to rush it. usually takes at least 3 hours to start to harden(depending on temp)

hope that helps a little

here is what i would do
1st ya need to identify the type of plastic this is if there is no ISO code in side the piece, cut off a small piece and try to sink it in a cup of water if it sinks then any type of repair can be done if it floats then ya need to you use a adheshion promoter for the repair material to stick to the plastic
there is no need to drill holes in this for a quality repair, there is a material out there and it is a plastic mesh or you can use the plastic sheet so lightly grind both sides, then ya v-groove the crack both sides,

yes the only panle bond that sticks to plastic is the 3m product using the mesh, lay the mesh down on the back side of the plastic then apply the panle bond to both sides so when you grinded you would want to grind a bigger area so the material has something else to adhere to
so after 24 hours sand down the material on the out side only then you apply the adheshion promoter that has to dry 15 mins apply repair material apply a finish coat
dont forget material is not cheap, panle bond is about 40 bucks then ya need the gun and then adheshion promoter then the mesh then the repair material
it may look easy but this is 15 yrs of repairing plastic and allot of experience so its just fyi if ya have no experience then have a pro do it

or send it to me and i can fix it for a small fee

can i haz bondo
