ok i read the sticky on this just want to make sure i do this right. i have a 99 z and im switching the headlights to 00+ style from a z. i just want to make sure that the harness can be used also if they will be any problems with the air bag sensor up front.
can be done .. you can use your fenders and hood. i did mine about a month or two ago.
heres my 96 before the headlights and bumper conversion
and she is after.. on hard part is getting the wiring done. not to bad though
yea i know the headlights are bigger but i was wonder if i can just use the 00+ headlight wire harness if it would work with the stock plug on the 99 but if not then i can just rewire the relays and add the light bulb harness
did you read the other sticky about the wireing harness> ? its a little tough it your not aware of electronics much .
but to answer you question, no you can not use your old harness. the older cavs use two bulbs, one for highs and one for lows. as with the 2000+ they only use one bulb.
ok let me try to clear this up some more. i am going to the junk yard i want to pull a complete headlight harness off a 00+ cavy or 95-02 sunfire with fogs. would that harness just plug into the stock plug located below the batery. so basicly i do not want to cut wires and add relays if a complete harness would work from a donor car. i know the 95-99 cavies have a two bulb system head light. i also know that the 00+ headlights are a little taller.
you have to do some wiring buddy no way around it .. without tearing the car apart
ok just wanted to make sure i guess ill just get the relays and the bulb sockets and start on that then i just wish it would have been easier with just pulling a complete one from a 00 and switching it out with the 99 but o well i guess not. i'll just study the diagram before i do it.
hey now, you can use a 00-05 harness or 95-02 sunfire harness. it plugs up exactly like you stated jons2000z24.
my buddy evan did this. i'll have to double check on it but i'm sure he said he did this.
i did the two relay diagram and my drivers headlight doesn't work but drl does and highbeams do. so i ask him what he did and now i'm in search of a harness too.
i will let ya know asap if this is correct.

5 seconds to find another street...
if this is true. then im listening . id rather go the oem and cleaner setup withouth relays
NO YOU CANT USE A 2000+ HARNESS TO PLUG INTO YOUR 1999. IVE TRIED AND IT WILL NOT WORK.
Don't believe me? Well i got pics.

Another thing to learn you can't see in the pictures is, 95-99 the airbag sensor wires are ran in through their own path, in 2k+ the airbag sensor wire is actually ran in through the headlight harness.
Now that you know that I guess I can tell you this.
You CAN use a 99 sunfire harness, but, my suggestion is don't even bother. I tried the sunfire harness thing and it could work but if the wires and connector pin-out aren't the same you won't have properly working lights. That was my problem.. only the parking lights worked and high beams.. nothing else.. if you don't know what i mean by connector pin-out. The one on the left is the sunfire, right is my original 96 z cav.

Now it can be done.. by switching the harness but I haven't heard of anyone successfully doing it other then one person on his 95. and 95s are a entire different setup due to its OBD1. my suggestions is to just go clip some pigtails and wire them in.. a lot easier and better chance of getting them to work. Also you mentioned you want to have a OEM install.. that can easily be done.. solder your wires, heat shrink em, and buy some QUALITY electrical tape(like the $3 a roll 3M stuff, not the 70c Wal-mart @!#$) and then just put the wire loom back over the wires and no one would be the wiser it was different.
If you have no idea on doing electrical wiring, soldering, etc don't do it. simple as that. You have a better chance of messing something up if you don't understand what your working with. Also, if you get it done and OMG a headlight doesn't work.. check your fuses.. MANY have came on here complaining and thats all its been...
Also mean't to add, you may not have to use relays.. for some reason I didn't have to use any relays in my headlight wiring.. and I know of a few others as well but I don't know what people are doing to cause that.. maybe it was because my DRLs were disabled before I did the swap, I don't know for sure.. Im GOD maybe too.. I don't know.. thats just what I heard.

I don't know why so many ppl are scared of the headlight wiring. I'm tempted to start making and selling plug and play adapter harnesses for Jbody headlight swaps.
^dont waste your time micah

Stephen your not GOD, GOD would at least have boost
ok so i got the sockets and the relays so i should just follow the sticky on this. i might experiment first and see if i can connect the two grounds together and use one wire for the high and one for he low if it works i'll let everyone know
The headlights work off of a switched ground. So it's the two positive wires that you'll need to connect together.
Stephen - gimme your 03+ headlight harness...
well i completed the swap everything went good the worst part was wiring it all but i must have doone it all right because everything works i'll get some pics up when i have som time to do so
