Hey guys got a minor issue that some of you may be able to shed some light on.
I was recently in minor fender bender with my buddies sunfire GT, its a 96, and we were backing out of a driveway and and backed into a buddies blazer who was pulled up too close.
Body damage was some scratching on the driver side top half of the bumper, no cracking, no broken anything. My buddy noticed today that the trunk lid doesnt open like it should, like when he would pop it with the key fob the lid would pop itself open, it doesnt do that anymore.
He said the trunk doesnt leak, that it open and closes fine, he says it seems like it may just be rubbing somewhere on the latch prventing it from opening freely.
He also says that looking down between the bumper cover and the latch there appears to be damage to the bumper itself (crush guard). Any thoughts on this guys, I have yet to be able to see it myself to find out what needs to be done just trying to get an idea
sounds like what he said the latch got pushed back. you might have more damage under the plastic parts of the car then you think
need a pic i cant tell you what is dmaaged by what you typed
can i haz bondo
Fold down the rear folding seats. Take a trouble light and Crawl into the trunk from the backseat. Get a buddy to open and close the trunk slowly. From the inside, pay close attention to the latch and how the car locks into it when it makes contact. Make sure it is perfectly centered. If not, It is probably binding or rubbing a tiny bit from the collision, causing the trunk not to pop open as freely as before when the latch is released. Make small adjustments very carefully by slightly bending the latch whatever way it needs to go to be centered, there might even be some adjustment screws you can play with to get the latch to click into place perfectly. Check every time an adjustment is made by opening and closing the trunk.
yep, even when you remove the trunk lid and put it back, you have to make sure you put it in the correct position so as to not obstruct the latch. i had to readjust mine because it would open, but not swing up. now, it is better.
