does anyone remeber the car that had the carbon roof i wanna know how he did it cause i would like to do it also and do the rest of the car in carbon
we wanna see progress pics when you get it started .. hopefully its not just a plan .. this is brought up at least once a month and we never hear from it again
Im over in the middle east right now and i have a carbon front bumper, fenders, hood, side skirts, trunk, and fuel door waiting at home so ill have a good chunck doen when i get home next time i come over here ill buy the carbon doors. ill post pics when i can
i already tried to buil a complete cf cavy and honestly it was fun while it lasted but when it comes down to the doors there in lies the problem because the only company that makes them is class glass and i ordered them and dude they sucked so bad i sent them back. i have pics of them and theyre not even cf. so dont waste ur time dealing with them. its a great idea doing. maybe u can talk to VIS and see if they can make u sum but it would be costly.
sure they arent cf with paint over them like they do for all their cf products now?
they started doing that because people complained the cf weaves werent perfect
i also believe jason at aplus sells the doors too
if you wanna mke a complete cf car it's be easier to use the body as a mold, wrap it in cf, and then throw it on a frame. either way, with that much cf (doors, fenders, hood, trunk, bumper) i would hate to see what that car would look like god forbid you ever had any kind of accident. there's really not much in the way of anything you can do to repair it. besides, with all the different parts from different companies, will any of the weaves line up? will any of them even face the same way? i'm not saying don't do it. i'm just trying to give you some things to think about. i hate to see big projects just get scrapped because they weren't thought through. best of luck with it though if you do go through with it and i'd love to see pics.
If you're going for weight savings and true carbon shell.. I wouldn't suggest it. Just unneccessary hassle and such. I'd wrap all the cars panels in carbon instead. A helluvah lot cheaper, might I add
I had my roof sanded down, roughed up and had a shop lay the carbon fiber over the metal roof and then seal it. I wasn't looking to save weight; I did mine just because no one else had done it on a cavalier before.
