Replacing Doors...
Friday, December 21, 2007 10:06 AM
Alright I have replaced my drivers side door completely once due to the original door being damaged.... now I have managed to get a matching set of doors in mint condition with body matched handles and mirrors basically for free... I am looking at replacing both my passenger and drivers side door this time but was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to properly align the doors... Last time it took us pretty much 30 minutes to replace the door and 3 hours trying to figure out how to align it... I will be removing both fenders this time but would love to hear any tips

The easiest way to do it is to take the bolts off the door side of the hinges and when putting the other door on, put the bolts back on on the old marks. Should be a good base from there. If your doors open and close good right now do not remove the hinges from the post. Should be no reason to do that.

x2 leave the hinges there and when u put on the new doors use the primer marks that were left where the bolts were and line it back up real easliy

another way of doing this would be to do one door at a time (im sure youll do that anyways) and align the door withought the hinges on. then use a ratches strap or long rope to hold the door shut by stringing it through bothe windows and down under the undercairage. u then can put the hinges on and be VERY close to having them alligned. and also. you ALWAYS align any body panels to the stationary panels. so basically. you align bothe doors to the quarter panels and then you align the fenders and hood to the doors. it may take a while but youll get it
