Fog Light Replacement
Sunday, December 30, 2007 8:31 PM
I think i was looking at this website a little while ago and came across a topic that said that you can replace your fog light bulbs with those of a higher wattage bulb. I'm interested in doing this, but im not sure which bulbs i would have to be getting. Or even if i made that up. What type of bulbs would I have to get to make them a bit brighter?

I did a search but it came back inconclusive. I have a 2004 sunfire.

They're FORD bulbs and should be part number 885 at your local parts store. They're 55 watt bulbs instead of the 27 watt like GM has stock. But be careful...these bulbs WILL melt the plastic lenses of your fog lights pretty quickly.

depends on the year of the car. all you do is add 5 to the bulb number.

example:

95-99 cavalier (like mine)

stock bulb is 27W and is bulb # 881
its got the socket on it at a right angle instead of straight on.

higher wattage bulb is 55W and bulb # 886
same right angle bulb, higher wattage.

i leave mine on all the time, housing seems fine.

the 880 is the other bulb used.
27W and straight on socket, no right angle bend.

the higher wattage is the 885 like stated above. 55W bulb, fits exactly the same.

From what I remember the 95-99 fogs could take the higher watts, but the newer fogs 2000+ can not take them for very long at all and melt.

BTW HID fogs FTW. That is what I'm doing, but just have not ordered them cause money got tight from X-mas.
