Ok i have a problem. The driverside door to my 96' cavy wont open and i need to get the door open to get the door panel off to fix it. Does anyone know how to open the door w/o either handles working?
No i don't. But you could try and take the seat out which should give you room to take the panel off. I you can't do that don't you have to take the small panel behind the handle off to get the main panel off? If so you could take that out and try to see why nothing is working. hope you get the problem fixed.
There are screws that hold the panel on the door that are on the bottom and inaccessable with the door closed. Im pretty sure the latch in @!#$ up of the linkages popped off.
only thing i can think of is maybe take the door off its hinges?? maybe through the front fender?

the latch will still be connected so that wont work.. you might be able to pop the top of the door panel off to get your arm down in the door to pop the latch thats about all i can think of.
try taking something and sticking it down there from the inside with the window down and pull on the linkage on the left side make sure its unlocked first.
then again if the latch failed by which i mean broke then its gonna be a fun task getting it open we had this issue with a geo someone slammed the rear door and the claw broke and jambed. tookn over 2 hrs to get open.
Wayne how did you get the Geo's door open? My mom was driving the car and stopped at the store. She said the door was working fine all day until she went to get back in it. The handles have resistance in them like usual, but there is no "pop" when the door usually opens. I might have to go to the junkyard and get a new door panel and cut this one off.
i have the plastic door sill thing off the floor and i can see the screws..so maybe if you can get that off....but i have a 97 sunfire so who knows...you might have to destroy it to get it out with the door closed, but it's just held in by clips so it can't be too hard. and it's probably cheaper than a door panel or door itself. good luck.

This happened to my cavy, on mine the lock is jammed, it won't stay unlocked and the only way I can open the door is by (from the outside) putting the key in, and turning it, holidng it turned while pulling the door handle, or (from inside the car) pulling on the lock while pulling on the handle. Haven't really gotten a chance to look at it, since it's winter, I don't have a garage, and I'm driving my silverado until spring, so the car is pretty much on hold.
Dam, i would have given you my door panels if this happened a just a week ago or so.I just got rid of my cavy cause it was totaled.Door panels were in perfect condition too.
You could just do like has been said and try from the top or break the plastic peice on the bottom.
